Us bank was founded by James J. Hill, Thomas Sutherland, and John J. Mitchell on September 3rd in, 1859, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to give people access to banking services in remote towns and farm communities across the Midwest. They were chartered to establish a connection from New York City to Mendota, Minnesota, with a railroad line that would link both coasts of America together as one country by rail instead of sea trade routes which could only carry one-third as much cargo as they had anticipated they could take when they first built their railroad lines out west.
Us bank is famously known for its creation of the first "jumbo" loan in the history of banking, a staggering $5 million loan to a small Minnesota farm with 1,800 acres of land that needed money to purchase and operate enough pigs to meet the demand for hogs across the state. The first-ever Jumbo pig loan was created by James J. Hill and Thomas Sutherland on January 1st 1891, in St. Paul, Minnesota, for 3,250 pounds of pork that would be paid back over six years at an interest rate of 7% (2% interest every year) which was an extremely high rate compared to what people were used to seeing back then.
