Avis Car Rental

The first vehicle the gave me had a huge bubble on the sidewall of the tire. It had been marked. It was an obvious safety issue. The truck I ended up with had expired tags. I didn't notice until I was halfway through the rental. This location doesn't have their act together.

AVIS preferred allows you to walk straight to your vehicle .sometimes. When that works its the best.

After making a reservation, I was told at pick up that no more cars were available at the price I had reserved. When calling to request a refund of the difference, was told the agent at the counter could assist with that. When speaking to the agent after turning in the car, was told they have no access to corporate systems. We won't be using Avis again.

I usually opt to rent cars with Turo, this trip to Sacramento ended up being very, very last minute as I was flying in to care for a relative in hospice who was passing so I went with a traditional car rental agency. What a mistake. The agent at the desk was super friendly, no issues there but the car we had reserved wasnt available, their lot was quite empty. He was able to get us into a pickup truck instead. Not ideal, but we needed to get to our relative so I wasnt going to complain. The first truck they put us in had a broken windshield wiper. Thankfully I noticed it immediately, so we were switched out to their last truck on the lot. One month later I get a bill for smoke odor. Now, Im a nurse, my mom who was with me is an ICU nurse, weve both watched people die from smoking related ailments and we can both tell you its absolutely an awful thing to suffer through. You wouldnt ever, ever catch us with a cigarette. You could look back at our medical records for years and see weve never checked that we are smokers, quite literally it is absolutely impossible that we were responsible for whatever smoke odor they accused us of. So lesson learned, sniff your cars, take very good detailed pictures, and COMPlAIN about EVERYTHING because theyll try stab you with charges. Thankfully they reversed the charges completely. Initially they offered to discount the fee by 50%, had I been a guilty complainer I would have taken it but Im not guilty so after more insisting from me they refunded it fully. Despite that, it left such a sour note in my mouth. Ill go back to Turo next time. No more big, greedy corporations for me.
