tldr: next time, start at Hobby.
The crew at this site is first-rate, quick and efficient, yes, but also super-kind and helpful.
We had a snafu (our fault!) during check-in (due to having to shift from IAH to Hobby because of thrilling weather issues), and everyone helped, from the check-in guy, who knew to send us to ask for help, to the guy at the exit, who knew useful facts about their computerized systems, to the manager, who spotted us hovering by her door and came out to ask if we needed help, to the office team, who kept up with all their computer tasks in between being nice as we crowded into their office. The manager fixed our snafu in 15 seconds and took another 30 seconds to get rid of a fee the IAH office had tacked on for changing dropoff, and even answered a question I'd been wanting to ask about daily vs hourly rates. 6 stars!

Issuing 1 star because thats the lowest scoring Google will allow. Never going through this rental again!! When offered additional packages you can accept or decline those offers, after declining it was still added and now they are refusing to refund me because the charges are valid according to them. Had I not called customer service to ask what the charges were for I would have never known because it doesnt even explain it on the final bill youre sent. Customer experience was horrible from beginning to end!

Avis in general is alright. Most of the time we never have an issue. At Hobby airport though if you arrive after a certain time you have to take the shuttle and quite frankly theyre a little slow. Considering they should have more people working the counter. The ladies are very nice but Avis should do better scheduling.

For my first time ever renting a car, I would never come back to this location. I am not certain about other locations but the location specifically at the Houston Hobby airport provided some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. There were things that I genuinely did not understand and the employees began to get upset with me because I was not understanding. I tried my best to obtain the information but every time I spoke to someone, I was getting different answers. The staff ultimately because rather rude toward me. Unfortunately, I had to take my business elsewhere. Just keep your eye out when dealing with this location. Please be prepared for overhead fees that are not listed when renting a car.
