image When I relocated to the Salem area I needed to put together a new care team and after 10 years with Kaiser I needed a fresh viewpoint on things. I had been told things were what they were and they would never get better, accept chronic pain and deal with it. I located a new PCP that referred me to Dr. Kleronomos; I had my doubts, and at the time of the referral his office was still getting set up so things were a little crazy. Almost 18 months later are things totally better, no, but they have improved and when I follow the treatment plan things get even better.
Let me address a couple of the previous comments that sound more like a disgruntled patient that didn’t get an easy fix with minimal work by the patient themselves. Can Dr. Kleronomos come off as egotistical, yes…he can, but if you really stop to listen to him it’s passion not ego. I could see how one could see him as being a bully, but again he is VERY passionate about what he does, his patients, and puts a lot of time into researching possible treatments options and consulting with a variety of other specialists if needed. He takes his job very seriously, wants his patients to improve, and yes, does get frustrated when he lays a treatment plan out and we, as patients don’t follow it. We can’t complain about a lack of results when we don’t follow doctor’s instructions. Dr. Kleronomos is not an opiate pusher; in fact, he would prefer herbs, dietary supplements, and change in diet/eating habits. Alternative medicine and treatments (i.e., supplements and herbs) are not typically covered by insurance companies; he is running a business and has to cover his expenses. I know for a fact that he tries working with different vendors, pharmacies, and herb suppliers without sacrificing quality. Insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies have made finding quality alternative medicine a challenge at best. Dr. Kleronomos has invested years of education, time, and experience into being a leader in his field. He can have a busier schedule due to speaking engagements. He does know what he’s talking about when he’s allowed to do what he needs to do to get to the root of the problem.
As a wrap up, yes your first appointment will be long, he may input several things into a computer or take notes, and he will order a ton of lab work…can’t make a proper diagnosis without being able to determine what is wrong. He will probably suggest supplements, herbs, dietary modifications, a variety of treatment options and at least checking in with the practice mental health provider. Your insurance may or may not cover everything he suggests. It is up to you to communicate your needs, wants, and financial abilities with the understanding that the more restriction you put on him varies what he can do for you. As with any provider, things work if you do as suggested…the long-term outcome is directly proportionate to how much effort you are willing to put into and if you follow instructions. Dr. Kleronomos is very passionate about what he does and for some, his delivery isn’t warm and fuzzy enough…if you don’t like it, tell him, he won’t sugar coat things, but he can’t fix something if he doesn’t know it’s an issue. You WILL NOT find a provider or office that works harder to advocate for their patients or find relief for your aliments. Dr. Kleronomos has a passion that can be overwhelming at times, but it does benefit you if you allow it. To not give their multi-disciplinary approach at least a try is denying yourself some level of relief and a better understanding of what’s going on with your own health.
