This hostel is fantastic. They provide free linens/towels. Everyone working here is very kind. I forgot my phone charger and they let me borrow one from their bin of left behinds. They also provide a free bagel breakfast. The bagels are very fresh and tasty. For the price, the accommodations were extremely comfortable and impressive. The bathrooms are super nice and very clean. There are fun events happening at the hostel nearly every night, as well as in the surrounding area. Tonight there was live music - I spilled my drink and they helped me clean it up and brought out another for me free of charge. I would recommend this place to absolutely anyone!

Our second stay at the NW Portland Hostel this past weekend. Very impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of all the workers we interacted with. Great food in the cafe and attended a free wine tasting our second night. Highly recommended for travelers that appreciate good value and comfortable engaging surroundings.

To deserve to be called Voted 3rd best medium size hostel in the world! * It's very clean, like a hotel, the lady at the counter is super nice, breakfast is provided, and there's an elevator. I booked a room for 6 to 8 people, and there was no extra charge for upgrading to a room for 4 people. I could borrow a lock and towel from the front desk for free. The lockers are in the room and correspond to the bed number, so there is no mistake. The lockers are large. The toilet is very large, and the toilet, shower room, and sink are all together (just like the bathroom at home). There is a cafe on the first floor (outside guests can also come to dine), and many people participate in Hostel's activities every night. It feels very lively and fun (although I did not go in to participate). For breakfast, you order directly from the cafe on the first floor. Although there are only bagels, they come in three flavors (original, everything, and cinnamon), which are very delicious (not the bagels sold in ordinary supermarkets, they should be handmade, from the cafe) The standard is not that of a general hostel). There are four choices of drinks. You can also pay extra to buy the meals and drinks on the menu. If you only eat the bagel provided for free, you will be a little full, hahaha. Check-out time is 12:00pm, not 11:00am All in all a great stay.

I had a short stay of just one night but I really liked this hostel its a little collection of houses complete with a caf (open all day and serving meals, baked goods, coffee/tea, and alcohol), a patio with fireplace, a garden area, laundry facilities, and apparently a library (saw a sign for this but didnt investigate further, but the house I was staying in also had books in the living space). The building I was staying in had lounges on each floor with the aforementioned small selection of books, a kitchen, and two full bathrooms, one half bath. I was given a towel with my room but the bathrooms all had bins well-stocked with washcloths in clean/dirty bins. The main building with the caf is totally up-to-date, the house I was staying in was more weathered, but it was clean and most everything worked, and there were no funky old building smells (or funky smells of any sort). I say MOST everything because the heat in my room did not turn on until in the very early morning (thats when I heard it come on, though I didnt make the connection until after I got up that the heat was what I was hearing). It was 35-40F outside during the night and my room was seemingly better insulated from the rest of the house than it was from the outside, because despite it being a comfortable temperature in the common areas it was FREEZING in my room until morning proper, several hours after the heat kicked on. I had to wear my two days worth of clothes and drape my coat and (dry) towel over the bed to be comfortable enough to sleep. So, if youre visiting during cold weather, bring COMFORTABLE layers in case you get unlucky with the heating system so that you don't have to sleep in jeans! I also didnt pick up any noise from neighbours, but to be fair, it was a Thursday night, and my house did not seem to be fully occupied. Someone passed by outside blasting music during the night, but that was just once and couldve been a chance occurrence. All the staff were very friendly. I got a thorough tour of the complex when I checked in. The front desk is not staffed 24/7 but there is a 24/7 phone line in case you get locked out or have another emergency. I enjoyed a kombucha at the cafe after I arrived (kombucha on tap is a win for me), which was lovely. In the mornings, hostel guests get a complimentary bagel from a local bakery (with butter, cream cheese, PB, and jelly available as spreads) and tea or coffee. I greatly enjoyed my bagel. The whole cafe setup here was a treat because I sometimes feel like Im losing out on getting out and experiencing the local scene when I go to the complimentary breakfast at my hotel or hostel, but that was not the case here because they sell food from local producers and seem to be a popular community destination, not just a place for travelers. My total for the one night in a private single room was 86 USD and I feel that this was a very good value for the comfort of the facilities (I mean, except for my heater) and the experience offered.
