Lovely place in an older but well done building. We had a strange experience with the sofa bed not being made up for the 3rd guest and not being provided with proper bedding for it until the 2nd night.

The room was probably beautiful back in its heyday.. the mattress was a tad saggy, the lights were dim, the hallway was dirty. Our neighbors were smoking (green) in their room and the smell came into ours. The hotel is close to the trolley route and felt safe.

The reviews with Denise and Shaq are true, they are excellent employees and do everything they can to make this hotel. They are friendly, competent and have great suggestions. My only issue with this hotel is with the fine details. This could be a 4 or 5 star luxury hotel but dont be confused, its not. It is a reasonable, good, middle hotel and that is wonderful. The negative reviews are believing this hotel is something its not supposed to be. However, with just a small amount of upgrades like contracting with a fancy soap/shampoo company, fixing up bathrooms and swapping out broken items this could be a $400 a night place. Soo, sshhhh dont take away this amazing deal. Families are welcome and I will be staying here again. Rooms: The rooms are classic and have a nostalgic and old hotel feel. They have lower light and are comfortable with high ceilings, long and dark colors. Updates and fixes are definitely needed but they dont deter from the overall value and feel. Safety: I felt incredibly safe at this hotel. The staff monitor the hotel 24hrs including a locked front door after 10pm and the across the street parking. The parking lot is also under video surveillance and a high gate. Walkability: This was a fabulous location. It is right next door to Lafayette Square and on the St. Charles street car. Its about a 10min walk to the French quarter and a 10min walk to the WWii museum. There are a wide range of restaurants available within 10-15min walk.
