I have had the absolute worst time with SunTrust, I have had my account closed for 5 months and I am still dealing with them because it seems that every single link in the chain of command is completely incapable doing anything correctly. In the last year SunTrust has double deposited checks 3 times then removed the amount without warning. They have deposited several of my direct deposits into my mothers linked account. I could go on and list several more problems but thats beside the point of the main issue. I was having problems with SunTrust and finally got tired of spending hours on the phone to fix mistakes that were the banks fault. On November 5th I went into the local SunTrust branch on Stratford RD and asked that all my accounts be closed because I was done dealing with the bank. I paid off the full amount of my credit card and withdrew all the money out of my savings and checking account, and asked what else I needed to do to make sure my relationship with SunTrust ended that day. I was told I had done everything I needed to shut down my accounts so I left and opened a new bank account at BB&T that day. A week later I find out that they had not actually closed my savings account and because it was linked to my old checking account and my moms account, automatic charges that were on my old checking account went through to my mothers account and applied an overdraft charge because of the still existing link. My mother had to spend hours in the bank rectifying this and finally was able to get refunded and ensure the savings account got closed. So a few months go by and I start getting calls from 800 numbers telling me they are SunTrust and asking me to verify my social. Obviously I thought this was a scam because I didnt have a SunTrust account anymore. The calls persisted so I finally answered. Upon answering I find out my credit card is still open and has been being charged the automatic payments that had been on it for the last 4 months and that Im expected to pay it back. I spend some time on the phone and finally get the last of my SunTrust accoutns closed. I submitted a fraud claim to the fraud department after spending another hour on the phone. I asked the person on the phone at the fraud department if I could receive email communication to keep up with any updates. I called again this week because it had been so long without hearing anything. After talking to a supervisor this week, I find out they cannot send me emails because I dont have an online account so they defaulted to sending me mail, to my old address. I know it got sent to my old address because I attempted to update my address 3 times after moving and things still got sent to the old address. So the supervisor I talked to told me she would do a workaround and allow the system to send me an email. Its been 4 days and I have not received the email. I have been getting debt collection calls almost every day even though I have a claim submitted in the fraud department. I have to explain this whole story every time and end up waiting on hold or being transferred. I am so tired of this and just want it to stop, it feels like I am being harassed by a company and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. I would happily pay the fees if I had done something wrong but I feel like I did nothing wrong. I honestly dont know what else I can do at this point so I am writing this review in hopes that someone from SunTrust will see it and attempt to rectify this 5 month chain of absolute incompetence at every stage from an agency that is responsible for managing peoples money. I realized this is not just the responsibility of the branch but I think I have the highest likely hood of getting someones attention if I post locally.
