My dad stayed there for only a week after suffering a stroke before having to go back to the hospital largely due to the terrible & neglectful care at Marywood. Their response time was often more than 20 minutes, and one night 45 minutes. The staff would not take patients out of rooms at all and the nurses hang out by the desk and do not interact with the patients. They hire from outside services at night and the night time staff does not even know when patients are asking for help due to no lights outside the rooms, no buzzers when a patient calls for help, and they do not wear pagers like they are supposed to. I reported the poor care numerous times to the nursing director and nothing changed. Marywood needs to make changes or be shut down. After being discharged from the hospital, he stayed at Spectrum Rehab on Kalamazoo and the high quality of care there made it even more apparent of how terrible Marywood was. I feel lucky that my dad made it out of there alive. Do NOT take your loved one to Marywood.

Lots of staff turnover and temporary nurse. My wife needed special care and training lacked. Several times call light not answered and a couple of times left her sit in diarrhea. PT nevety got clearifcstion on what to do for rehab on surgery leg and did nothing. There are a couple of good nurses and aids but very short handed.

Worse place. My 90 year old Mother had to be transferred there after a hip replacement. She was not able to get out of bed on her own. When she was admitted she was put in her room and drop off in her bed. I arrived 10 minutes later and I asked where the nurse was. My mother said she stop by and said hello and said she would be right back. There was an oxygen machine in the room it was not set up for my mother. I asked for pillows to prop her up in bed a a walker. When I arrived back at 6:00 PM she had not received pillows and was given a old broken walker with uneven legs. Who does that? At night she called for assistance to go to the bathroom. No one came for 15 minutes. My mom ended up wetting the bed. When they finally came they help her to the bathroom with the broken walker and no safety belt. I need to get her out of there.

This is the worst place we have ever encountered. My 91-year old mother was admitted on Saturday afternoon and had an order to go for three very short walks per day. She had had pneumonia, congestive heart failure and pulmonary issues. The aides were “too busy” for 6 hours straight and my mom was sedentary for that time! My mom pushed the call button for help and they kept saying they were “busy” (from 4 pm until 10:15 pm!!!). My mom wanted to go to bed, but the staff was again “too busy” and at 10:15 p.m., I drove over because my mother was in tears. As I pulled in, a Jimmy John’s car pulled out! I came in and the staff was laughing and talking at the nurses desk. In addition, the LPN tried to give my mom the wrong dose of her heart medication! My mom told her it was the incorrect dosage, but the LPN argued. My mom asked her to check, and the LPN came back and laughed that my mom was correct, and gave my mom the correct dose. This “mistake” could have killed my mom. The only recommendation I would give about Marywood Rehab is DO NOT go!
