After waiting six months for an appointment the receptionist called today to let me know they were canceling my appointment and would not see me. I have lived in several states and Oregon has an unprecedented level of incompetent medical care. This group has the same abysmal and apathetic healthcare standards you find everywhere in Oregon. If you want to wait six months to find out you will not be seen Summit Surgical Specialists is your best bet! I think one star is generous. You would think they would at least try to refer you to another office or provide an alternative for their not following through with a commitment to take you on as a client. At the very least a simple sorry. Of course none of these things were done. As I said abysmal care!

I can absolutely say with confidence this is the best doctors office Ive ever visited. Dr. Stites and Dr. Chow are INCREDIBLE. They both really took the time to understand me and my history. They both explained things to me that made sense and made me feel comfortable. Appts are always on time and they spent a GOOD amount of time with me. I went in to see Dr. Stites and he referred me to Dr Chow (gastro) in same office, he went over to ask if he can do a referral with the front desk and Dr Chow said, I had a cancellation! I can take her now! This was and is excellent care. Proud to call them both my doctors!

I tried 6 months several phone calls to schedule an appointment unable, they said I would be put on urgent list. So I call
Riverbend and schedule an appointment that same day.

I gave Summit Surgical Specialists 1 star only because there was not an option for "NO STARS". I was in the hospital for internal bleeding on 11/16 and 11/17/2022. During that stay I had a colonoscopy by a doctor from Summit Surgical Specialists. The following week I spoke to Summit regarding the results of a biopsy. I was told that Summit would call me as soon as they had the results. THEY NEVER CALLED. On Saturday, April 1, 2023 I received a collection notice from Transworld Systems Inc. regarding a $40 copy owed to Summit Surgical. The notice had been sent to an address where I had not lived for 2 1/2 years . The only reason I received the notice was because the resident at the old address had written "Not At This Address", and my current address on the envelope and returned it to the Post Office. Obviously, Summit Surgical had sent the original invoice to the wrong address and it was never forwarded to me. Summit Surgical had both my correct address and my phone number from the hospital records and the phone call I made to them that they never saw fit to return. I called Summit Surgical this morning and immediately paid the $40 copay as I would have done months ago had they bothered to check the address and phone number they already had in their office records and sent the invoice to the correct address. Needles to say I will never use Summit Surgical Specialists in the future nor would I ever recommend them to anyone.

Result of my initial review (below):
The day after my initial review posted, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a telephone response. I spoke to Robin (I do not recall her last name), who is involved with overseeing the management of Summit Surgical Specialists' telephone communications. She agreed that their telephone system needed an upgrade. From what I understood, there is, in process, a research to change their telephone system in order to avoid the frustration caused by the difficulty of getting through to the schedulers or having the messages I left not being returned.
As a client, I appreciated Robin's concern re my experience to call me personally and to assure me that Summit Surgical is looking into the matter of having better client communications in the future.
My initial review:
Dr. Parker was friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, explained my situation and what procedures she could perform, then made her recommendation, along with answering all my questions. I give her high marks! Nurse Elizabeth was also friendly and efficient.
ON THE OTHER HAND...trying to reach the hospital was a NIGHTMARE! Calling this medical office is the WORST experience I have ever had from a medical office. In total, I called 5 times to try to make an appointment, and 4 times I had to leave a message to return my call, which was NEVER returned. The only way I was able to finally make an appointment was to continue to call early every morning until I was lucky enough to reach a live person. When I spoke to the live operator she answered without introduction as to who she was or the hospital's name; she was not friendly, answered with an irritated 'hello', as if she was upset because she had to answer the phone. Furthermore, after my procedure, I called a number of times as I had questions about my recovery, which worried me. Again, my call was NOT returned (was it ever delivered?). I question why it is so difficult to perform a simple request of a call back.
Because Summit Surgical offices are located at McKenzie-Willamette Hospital, I think this kind of service reflects badly on the hospital.
As I mentioned above, my experience with Dr. Parker was EXCELLENT! The poor service comes from the telephone communications which is the front-line to a business. This poor service makes me question if I would use Summit Surgical again. Trying to get through to the office personnel is too stressful!
