North Star PM has met or exceeded all of our expectations. From our first meeting about what was needed to rent out our home, to finishing up the small details that made it ready, they have shown up and they got to work for us. We live abroad and have adult children who act in our stead. Beginning at Day One, NSPM has given all of us personalized service by responding immediately to calls and emails, answering questions, helping us troubleshoot how to make changes or repairs from so far away, and putting a staff member on each and every issue that needs to be addressed. It is clear that they gave the same attention to potential renters because they found tenants for us within 8 weeks, when our former property management company couldn't in 6 months. The team is professional but personable, they are communicative and responsive. They are true partners with us. We researched 8 property management companies when we decided to rent our home. We could have saved so much time and money if we had just chosen North Star first.

He took everything out of our refrigerator to do the work. Then he put it all back in again neater and more organized than before he took it out! He also had to melt a big piece of frozen ice and he cleaned up everything behind himself. The kitchen was just as clean as before he came. He did a great job.

Ashley was awesome. She texted to ask if she could come early as she was in the neighborhood, showed up promptly, assessed what needed to be done and went to Ace to get the part. Was back super quick and completed the job perfectly. Very friendly throughout. Wonderful.

The positive reviews are baffling. I had a horrible experience with Northstar managing my property. The first 5 years were fine, nothing spectacular....and somehow about 2000 worth of furniture, including a kitchen island in the home (and was in the listing photos) somehow ended up gone before the first renter even started. The last year or so, my tenants requests were ignored for weeks and somehow just randomly cancelled with no explanation when I asked (gee...we don't know why it was cancelled). I ended up communicating directly with my tenants and getting replacements myself for broken appliances and scheduling fixes. When needing to move back into the home, the process was horrific. I got zero explanation about the process other than the money I would OWE in "relocation assistance" (thanks ,city of portland) and had to hound them with calls and emails for timing, steps, etc and when I could approximately move back in. It took over 10 days for them to even LOOK at my home after the tenants moved out. Repairs and cleaning went on for weeks. Kim provided completely conflicting information about what the tenants would have to pay for, ordered work I asked her not to, and left my questions hanging for WEEKS. We were out thousands of dollars in repairs that they claimed were just normal wear and tear. They claimed I couldn't charge my tenants for damages due to "depreciation" (???). My tenants were so frustrated with the lack of information they finally threatened legal action for the deposit taking too long to settle, which Northstar turned around and blamed me for and told me I would have to pay when it was their lack of action and communication and screw ups!! It took 4 MONTHS to close out the account and my emails still went unanswered as to the final accounting. For my taxes, I recently asked for explanations as to charges and just get a stock document that doesn't answer my questions. They just can't be bothered to make sure everything is square and clear. Once they aren't getting revenue from you any longer, they don't care. I just can't even muster the energy to try to argue, which I am sure is what they count on...people just get so frustrated they give up. Their employees know it too.....I accidentally received emails intended for another homeowner with a similar name that had tenants threatening to back out of lease and report to city due to lack of response and when I called an employee told me "well, everyone is upset and screaming lately...lots of people not happy". The only person who seemed to have their stuff together was Mike, the maintenance lead. Lastly, the rent charged for my home was under market value. I went against my better judgement that we were asking too little and sure enough, gee, we got dozens of applications....I wonder why. I wouldn't give them a shoebox to manage.
