I've been seeing this doctor as my primary since I was able to see a regular doctor (not pediatrician) my grandmother and parents have also seen him for years until we moved a bit further away. I still make the drive to see him because he's very knowledgeable and old school. He will bring out medical books so you can read short parts if the diagnosis. No he doesn't make you read the whole thing. As I see some people are complaining about him. I've never once had a problem besides the wait time in the waiting room. I've waited over an hour sometimes but that's my only complaint. Now with the telehealth visits that isn't a problem at this time.

He wouldn't even write a prescription for Plavix after my husband had a stroke. He said it was because he didn't see his MRI. He probably could have requested a copy.

Was looking for a new GP after moving in 2015. Dr. Brown performed a physical but then proceeded to talk for ten minutes about how he was voting for Andrew Basiago for president in 2016 - then proceeded to tell me all about how I should read Mr. Basiagos book where he describes how he and Barack Obama were the first men on Mars in the 90s by using government teleporters, and how when he was a child, he travelled back in time to Lincolns assassination the separate times. Dr. Brown did not give me the opportunity to talk about issues regarding my health because he totally hijacked the conversation to talk about this presidential candidate who claimed to be a time traveler. Needless to say, I did not retain him as my GP. HOWEVER... he did give me a great story to tell people!

Dr. Brown became my parent's doctor, and that of several of their friends, after we left Dr. Forgey (who nearly killed my Dad when he had sepsis). Dr. Brown has seen my Mom through several surgeries, and various flu's and skin conditions, and has been tremendously helpful to me, my husband, and my kids (teenagers), especially when it comes to vaccinations. Unlike so many physicians, he spends actual TIME with his patients, and his nursing staff (Sabrina, Darby and Sheila) are just as talented and caring. He doesn't take our insurance, but I don't care. It's worth the $60 insurance won't pay just to chat with him about what's going on medically. He also has facilities at the Merrillville office to do blood draws and x-rays, so it's pretty full service. I wish he worked more hours, but other than that, I'm very happy with Dr. John Brown and his staff.
