image This was the absolute worst apartment experience in my life thus far from start to finish. Our move in was a complete mess – the company lost our move-in report, they forgot to get us parking stickers resulting in parking tickets (which they refused to take any accountability for) etc. At first, we thought it was because the original person we worked with was new, but as time went on we realized that nobody ever knew what was going on in the office because management is constantly turning over. In the 10 months we stayed in this horrific lease, we saw at LEAST three separate managers. The company – Asset – is apparently rough to work for and is unable to hold on to their people. Further, the handoff process for their documents is nonexistent. The regional manager – Michael – is kind enough, but seems to have no idea what actually happens with the management team at SB1K.
If you think about moving here, they talk all about their amenities, but don’t take that at face value. If you want to use the resident lounge, you have to pay $350 (!!!!!!) dollars. They tell you that you’ll get $150 of this back, but the only time we used this we never saw that returned. Also, the pool is disgusting. It is NOT salt water and our friends who lived on the first floor literally saw a homeless man bathing in it on more than one occasion. She actually called their security office, but had to yell out of her balcony door to get the man to leave, as no security WHATSOEVER showed up.
They’ll also tour you through their newly painted halls. Rest assured, these halls are infested with mice. We caught FOUR mice in less than 2 weeks. As if this isn’t gross enough, we also had friends on the first floor catch videos of mice on her cameras at home. When we called to report it, they assured someone would come by to exterminate (they completely ignored the fact that we have a dog…….). More than TEN DAYS LATER someone finally came, threw some poison behind the fridge and stove, and called it good. When we decided to end our lease one month early because of this, the manager at the time said she understood and would allow us to leave. By the time we completed move-out, this (the THRID manager we knew of in our time there) manager had left. The new manager said she was not handed over any info that we were allowed to end our lease because of these health hazards, and she tried to charge us OVER $6,000 to leave. It took weeks of arguing for them to be talked down from this ridiculous charge. The manager was less than helpful and took no accountability or responsibility to help us understand $6,000 – especially given our maintenance person who did our final walkthrough noted the apartment was “immaculate.”
Finally – it’s blatantly unsafe. The doors are constantly broken (INCLUDING the garage door), so people from the outside can get in at any time (hence people bathing in the pool). During one of our last weeks enduring this place, we were woken up at 2AM by someone running their shoulder into our locked door and trying to get in. While I called 911, my partner tried to reason with the intruder. He started showing videos of explosions, violence, etc. through our peephole on his phone. Not only did the property management not care when we sent the video to them, they also did nothing to notify residents that this occurred nor did they even send a simple email regarding safety. The 911 operator actually told me other people were calling in about the man outside, but NO SECURITY WHATSOEVER was anywhere to be found in or around the apartment complex.
This place is not worth the price whatsoever. There are so many better nearby options! The residents here are kind, but the building is not taken care of AT ALL – it seems the residents have taken the view of, “Management doesn’t respect us, why should we respect their property”……sadly, I can’t argue with their thinking.

image I lived in the 1000 S Broadway apartments for over a year (16 months, to be exact). I would discourage anyone from ever living in this building. There were a multitude of problems with this building and the staff. First, the faulty wiring in the building caused fire alarms to go off at all hours of the night. Not only was this extremely disruptive to a normal sleep pattern, but it caused myself and my dog extreme anxiety. It was hard to fall asleep each night knowing the deafening fire alarm may jolt me awake at any moment. I read some of the below reviews, to note that building management said "We apologize for the inconvenience with the fire alarm, and we're working to resolve it. Please come by our office if there is anything that we can assist you with." I want to state for the record, I came by their office no less than 3 times to try and voice my concerns and negotiate some sore of solution (more on that below). Second, the security for the building was very poor. The controlled access locks were constantly breaking, allowing anyone to walk in off the street into the building. One time I found a man sleeping in the stairwell, which was extremely frightening. Other examples of poor security include the package room door not locking which left peoples personal valuables at risk of theft, the actual theft of a motorcycle from the garage, and vandalism of the third floor. Next, the amenity spaces, like the fitness center, were under construction for the majority of my time living at the apartment complex. A large part of the decision to live in an apartment complex, versus renting a home is for the amenity spaces. I was hugely disappointed I was not able to use the fitness center during my time living at 1000 S Broadway. The never ending construction on the building resulted in a dumpster placed in the loading dock area. This meant that anyone moving was prevented from using the loading dock. When I finally moved, the moving truck was not able to park in the loading dock area, which resulted in higher moving out prices (through our movers). Finally, the property management staff was unreasonable and lacked any empathy toward these issues. I tried, in good faith, to negotiate any solution with the property management. I worked with Robbie and Mary. Both refused to negotiate. At first, I asked for a minimal rent deduction for the disruptions. That idea was rejected and they did not provide any other attempt to resolve the conflict. Then, I decided it was time to break my lease as I could not live in these conditions any longer. I reasonably requested that I not have to pay a move-out penalty. Again, Robbie and Mary would not entertain any sort of conversation about any reduction in price or even a letter of acknowledgement of wrongdoing. They constantly breached our lease, abused their bargaining power, and rebuffed any sort of solution we suggested. This was the worst apartment I have ever lived in.

image An extremely constant trigger in the alarm system has been happening for a while now. However, in the last few months it’s reached new levels of disrespect to actual emergencies.
Tonight the alarm went off a total of 3 different times in a period of 1 hour. 12am-1am. Forcing us to wake up in a panic and feel the sudden need to reach for safety. Only to find out, that yet again, it’s a false alarm.
The most disturbing part of this constant incident tonight, was reaching the bottom floor to see the small amount of tenants that actually took this as a possible emergency. There was but a handful of people outside of the building.
Residents have gotten so used to this happening, that they no longer act upon what could potentially be a life threatening situation.
My hearts goes out to anyone in the building dealing with this lack of respect from the building at these hours. While also suffering from PTSD, ADD, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, cardiac problems or any mental health related issues. Making all this that much more stressful.
This building has sadly reached a point of no return.
Shame on ownership and management for having such a detrimental influence on the people who pay to live here.
