First and last time stepping foot into this Dillards. Called ahead of time to see about a return/exchange of an online purchase in store - the person on the phone confirmed that as long as I had my receipt it shouldnt be a problem. The sales associate at the store was helpful explaining that since the item I wanted to exchange was a gift (too big) shed only be able to return the item, put the $$ on a gift card and then I could purchase the new item with the gift card. Easy enough. I tried on a few items and found a new item (exact same price) to exchange for the gift. She did the return, put the money on the gift card, scanned the new item, and made the purchase with the gift card, but then something happened with the computer. The sales associate immediately called for a manager to come down and help - explaining that the gift card was now empty, but the computer was frozen and the transaction wasnt finished processing. No manager came. Over the course of 30 minutes, the sales associate called for a manager 5 times re explaining the situation each time and pleading with them to come and help. On the final call the manager asked her to ask me to come back tomorrow. Thats when I lost my patience. I took the gift and new item and walked up two floors to the customer service desk. Three managers standing at the desk - one on the phone and the other two just chatting with each other. No one apologized - just blamed their computer system. Once they got off the phone, they sorted out the gift card issue, asked me to pay one cent more (the items were the EXACT same price), and I was angrily on my way. The sales associate did a wonderful job during those 30 minutes redirecting other customers to check out elsewhere, entertaining my 10 month old, and pressuring her managers to help - management is who dropped the ball not supporting their employee or customer.
