    Too expensive

I called and let them know that I am between jobs and am just trying to do right by this dog that was left with me and because I haven't worked since February 4th I am very low on funds but need to get this dog taken care of the absolute cheapest way possible. And what they should have done was guide me to a discount veterinarian. Instead, they assured me they would take care of me. So I go in, and they look at the dog for about 20 seconds, and I guess that was supposed to be my $100 exam... and then proceed to write me 2 prescriptions for medication that the dog needs. They tell me that they can write me a prescription or they can fill my prescription there. I asked about the prices and they said that it may be cheaper somewhere else but it also may be more expensive. They claimed they just couldn't tell me. So after about 10 minutes of going back and forth, trying to make sure I am not spending money I don't have. Not feeling like they would give me time to call around and ask because they have other patients waiting, I reluctantly bought the prescriptions from them. I felt rushed, so I didn't feel like I had time to call around anywhere to see if the medication would be cheaper elsewhere or not. So as soon as I leave I immediately started calling places to see if it is indeed cheaper or more expensive. It is leaps and bounds less expensive elsewhere! The bottle they charged me $18 for was only $4 at Walmart! And the $70 bottle of medicine was only $22 at Walmart!!! They absolutely refuse to take the medicine back even though it is in a 100% sealed container saying that they just couldn't give it to someone else in good conscience because who knows if it has been opened or not... well, it is SEALED, and no liquid is leaking out, so obviously, it is unopened... and I called them back within 5 minutes of leaving the office to begin with! I can not stand these veterinarian place's that aren't in the business to actually help dogs and give you the best price they can but instead try to make themselves rich off of people just trying to do right by a pet. If you're going to get into the pet industry, then max profit should be the least of your concerns. The well-being of the pet and helping your customers should be the main priority. If Walmart can sell it for $4 and still make a profit, then they can too. If Walmart can make a profit by selling it for $22, then they can too. But they dive deep as they can into your pockets no matter how much you express that you're spending money you don't even have to spend to begin with just trying to do right by the animal. I will never step foot inside any of their locations again in my life, and I wish I hadn't today. DO NOT BUY YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS HERE! If you're desperate, then pay for the exam and have them write you the prescription and buy the prescription elsewhere. You'll save tons of money when you don't have money to just blow for no reason. Also, they didn't even do anything for one of the main reasons I brought my dog there to begin with, which is something wrong with her anal glands. I didn't even realize that they hadn't done anything for that until I got home. I am beyond disappointed with the service I received here and would highly recommend going elsewhere to have someone that actually cares about animals and wants to take care of your pet. A $100 bucks to listen to the heartbeat and take a 3 second look into a dogs ear is just highway robbery. And then to charge you almost 3 times the amount the medication is worth is just ridiculous. I seriously hope they do NOT contact me asking anything about my dog. I was told this was a discount veterinarian, and I was lied to. NOW I STILL HAVE TO GO PAY SOMEONE ELSE TO FIGURE OUT WHY MY DOG IS DRAGGING HER BUTT ON THE GROUND AND IS LOSING ALL OF THE HAIR ON THE BACK OF HER BUTT. RIDICULOUS! I honestly can't believe that I didn't pay more attention. Hid sight being 20/20 the vet didn't even glance at her butt to give me any idea of what it could be.

Brian, learning of your dissatisfaction with your recent visit is disheartening. Upon review of your pet’s Medical Record, a written prescription was offered at the time of appointment. We cannot know the pricing for medications at various drugstores and pharmacies as there are thousands of medications available and hundreds of alternative sources to obtain them. We do offer some medications to be filled here as a convenience, as many of our clients want to get their pets started right away. Please keep in mind that we are always happy to offer lower cost veterinary alternatives when asked (we keep a list on hand for just that). Along with this, we are always happy to share the cost of exams when asked over the phone. We do hope Daisy is feeling better and if you would like to speak further on this matter, please contact our hospital manager at [email protected]. Thank you.
