The second time we got over charged. Don't think it's the checkers fault, but the way the system set up.

I went to this Safeway today (4/5) and had no issues until getting to the checkout. I loaded my groceries, but noticed an older woman in a motor cart pull up and offered to unload her groceries for her. I completed my order and was about to leave when I heard the cashier talk to her. First, she mentioned she had coupons and he ignored her completely. He asked the woman if she wanted bags, but it was loud and she said she was hard of hearing. He repeated the question, but she asked him to repeat it once more. Instead of being polite he grabbed the plastic bag in the holder and flapped it up and down aggressively while saying "BAGS!" clearly frustrated to repeat himself. That action is what made me turn around and stand by her the rest of her time in the store. I understand that it was busy and it's frustrating to have to repeat yourself, but that was so unnecessary and made the woman feel terrible and apologetic. She even told him that she was hard of hearing as she apologized.
She purchased 5 half gallons of milk, and we put only one up and told the cashier, but he didn't hear (or ignored) and I saw him scan one. At the end, I asked him if he heard us say we had 5 total and he was super rude about that, too! "I only scan what's on the belt, not in the basket." Super unnecessary. Just say you didn't hear or something, what the heck. So, I repeated, "We did tell you before. There are 4 more." and handed it to him to scan. Again, the woman was so apologetic and told him that she would get out of his hair and stop bothering him, which I think made him realize he was out of line, since he tried to be nicer at the end. No one offered her help to her car.
Well, I helped the woman to her car and brought the motorized cart back inside after. There were 2 employees by the carts (one cleaning the window ledge and one who had previously been sitting on TOP of the carts) who saw me bringing it back and physically have to push it, by myself, to the right area. I even said, "I helped someone load their groceries, this cart is super dead, where does it go?" And they just said "oh, over there" and never offered to help me. I plugged it in and left and they were still just chatting.
I should not be kinder and more helpful to your customers (again, a complete stranger) than your employees. I know first hand how hard working in a grocery store can be, but it's literally your job to be polite. She was not rude first, she was not even rude after, but I am so offended on this stranger's behalf and disgusted by what I saw today. What if I weren't there? The woman seemed so used to it, so I'm sure it's happened before. Please try to be better.

Lines are always way too long. can return area is scary . Digital Coupons don't work half the time. The staff is polite and look pretty methy.
Update: most of the staff was sent to rehab or replaced with cleaner people. Customers are still a mix of hillsboro blue collar and aloha meth heads.
Update #2: have never been happier to have a ccl and carry as when i am experiencing this homeless filled tranq zombie filled store.
