I bought a 2014 RAV 4, with 57,000 miles for $20,000 cash. I noticed a shudder, and planned to have the fluids checked, I thought there was an oil leak. I took it to my new mechanic and found there was a leak from the transmission and the fluid was black. So the fluid was changed and a new transmission filter was put in. There is a transmission leak, where it was put together.The u joints were extremely rusty and the one failed, that's why there was a shudder. The driveline was extremely pitted, so the driveline was replaced, along with the u joints. There is a lot of surface rust underneath that goes into the unibody. It states these vehicles are checked by a mechanic. This vehicle should not have left the lot. I was told If I had the extra insurance, it would have been covered. I said that would be insurance fraud. My next step is to report to the Better Business Bureau.

They do an excellent job of acting the helpful, caring small business, but it is a facade. The initial process was great, and we felt well taken care of, only for us to find out later that they blatantly lied all over the place. They also did not know basic information about the vehicle that would have been apparent even to many car novices, so I would surmise they take vehicles straight from auction to sale without any sort of inspection. If you do go to them, buyer beware and do your due diligence.EDIT for clarity re: the owner's response. I did NOT send a third party, that is semantic word smithing to avoid accountability. The person they are calling a "third party" is my husband, who is the primary owner of the vehicle in practice, if not on paper. Calling him a "third party" because we chose to purchase in my name for better financing is laughable. Yes, we were remiss in not getting an independent inspection and that is our lesson to learn. However, our mistakes do not excuse unethical business practices such as lying about where they obtained the vehicle.
