Rainier Restaurant and BBQ

I've been coming here for the past decade and generally the food is great. Usually 5 stars every time, but on this occasion I ordered my usual favorite grilled short ribs (4 strips, 3 bones per strip which ends up being about 12 pieces per order). Current price is $20. We live in inflationary times so I totally understand. It's still worth it to me. However, I got home with my takeout order to discover there were only 9 pieces this time (equivalent to 3 strips). That's a 25% reduction in portion size for the same price. I called the restaurant to confirm how many pieces usually come with an order of grilled short ribs. The lady said, "4 strips, there are 3 bones per strip so about 12 pieces." I told her that's what I thought too but I only received 9 pieces (3 strips) this time. She said, "Hold on, let me ask the kitchen." She then came back to the phone to tell me that it's only 3 strips and that she's sorry about the confusion. No mention of any recent reductions in portion size. No other explanation. Just a simple, "Sorry about that." That was the end of the call. This was a very unsatisfying customer experience. First off, because I don't believe them that portion sizes have been cut from 4 strips to 3 strips across the board for everyone. I've been ordering these short ribs for years and I feel like this was a one-off incident where the cooks may have miscounted and just didn't want to acknowledge that they shortchanged me. If this platform allowed for profanity, I'd probably use some curse words here to clearly crystalize how unsatisfied I am. But I'll just leave it at this. I think the grilled short ribs taste great. If it wasn't one of the more expensive items on the menu, I probably wouldn't care that much. But it happens to be my favorite thing here and a 25% reduction in portion size while keeping the price at $20 without any kind of heads up notice is very upsetting to me. That's why I took 15 minutes out of my evening to write this review. Happy St. Patrick's Day!
