Why did we decide to go with Alex Moore’s Danceworks? Well it wasn’t an easy decision because there weren’t any reviews on Yelp, and just a handful of short reviews on Google and Facebook, but after talking to Alex on the phone and telling him our songs he told me what dance styles would work and was able to schedule us on the next Saturday afternoon for a no obligation 30 minute intro class, without any pressure sales tactics. The Saturday afternoon time was important for us because the other dance schools in the area I called could only fit us into midday or later in the evening on weekdays, and given our work schedules this just wasn’t possible. On top of that his fees were very reasonable compared to other dance studios, and my fiancée lived right around the corner so that made things very convenient. The intro class was a success and we learned the basic steps of the two step which would be the dance for our first of three songs in our first dance, so we signed on for the 4 class plan and made an appointment to return. The next class, the first of four in the plan we learned more about the two step, the second class Alex’s wife Kathleen joined us and we learned the basics of the swing to dance to Happy and the foxtrot to dance to Fly me to the Moon, the third class we brushed up our skills a bit more, and the final and fourth class was more like a review to the real thing. Having Kathleen join to give instruction was a big help because she helped us get the steps down from both the man’s and woman’s perspective (when you take lessons you’ll understand how important this is). My only previous experience with dancing was “in the club” back in my early 20s, and my only experience with ballroom dancing is seeing commercials for Dancing with the Stars, well it’s not that scary. Alex and Kathleen will break down the steps for you and walk you through it and help you correct what isn’t right, they were very patient and attentive even when we made the same mistakes over again. To be honest we practiced a lot at home, dancing isn’t something most people are born to do naturally, and we also modified our routine a bit and added a bit of hip hop. It was fully possible for us to learn our dances by watching instructional YouTube videos and saving some money, but that would have taken a lot of time and frustration, and it was much easier to have a pro demonstrate to you the moves and correct you when you needed it. Alex and Kathleen made ballroom dancing a lot less painful than what I thought it would be. Dance lessons with Alex was a great investment that paid off because we were able to put together a stunning first dance in front of our wedding guests that helped make our wedding an event to remember. You only get married once (hopefully) and most likely you’ll pay a lot of money for the wedding with photography and videography involved, it’s worth investing a little extra so that the wedding photos, videos, and memories are extra special on your special day. Taking dance lessons together also brought my wife and me closer together because it’s a fun couple’s activity.

Alex Moore is a gifted dance teacher for groups and for one-on-one instruction. (He also is an accomplished professional dancer.) If you need to learn ballroom dance or to polish your skills, you will become a person who wants to dance! There are classes, individual lessons and parties. As Gershwin wrote, "Who could ask for anything more?"
