I attended a Samba dance class at Soundbox Studio and really enjoyed myself. It was my first experience with Samba, and I did pretty good. The class was all women besides myself, and they all were friendly and welcoming. I have no masculinity hang-ups so I fit right in. Although, I admit to having a bit of Covid-19 anxiety as more students attended the class, and I wasn't alone as some chose to wear masks the entire practice.
The studio itself consists of 2 smaller studio rooms and 2 larger ballrooms that patrons can rent out to lead a class. I witnessed a ballroom dance class taking place while simultaneously dancing Samba. Apparently, there is a selection of dance courses to choose from so refer to the website for more information if interested.
My footwork experience in boxing and football helped me pick up some of the routines fairly naturally, but I definitely have much room for improvement. It was also a good sweat and a great calf workout. I love the idea of challenging my brain with coordination drills so I intend to keep it going on Saturdays to get better.
