The Messiah is my favorite Christmas tradition. I look forward to it each year. This year, I was annoyed that the Symphony required face coverings for the audience, but was willing to go along with it in order to hear the beloved Messiah performance at Riverbend. I WAS SHOCKED, HORRIFIED AND DEEPLY DISTURBED LAST NIGHT WHEN THE ENTIRE CHORUS WAS REQUIRED TO WEAR BLACK FACE MASKS FOR THE ENTIRE PERFORMANCE. It was ridiculous. They sounded like they were trying to sing under water. It was excrutiating to watch these artists try to breathe and sing with their mouths, and noses covered. It was really hard to watch. Also, for the chorus, their voices are their instruments. So you covered their instruments. We were not able to hear the full expression of the performance. Their words were muffled. The sound was muffled. The chorus is so important because they are like the choir or angels singing in the night sky when Jesus was born. You ruined it. I left at intermission because I was so angry and disappointed. I also felt so sorry for those singers. It was hard to stay and watch it. I certainly couldn't enjoy it. Waste of time and money!!!!! I suggest not having the performance instead of a face mask covered one. The leadership at Austin Symphony should be ashamed of themselves. They are living in fear, and have certainly bought into the propaganda. I will not be a sheep. I am a lion. If you are going to propagate this insanity, you should let customers know ahead of time. I would have never participated in this disgusting 'performance' had I known that you would require SINGERS TO COVER THEIR FACES WHILE SINGING. Horrible. FAIL. Ruined my Christmas.
