Original Zomato Review 6/27/15 - I saw Gloria Jean's on here and decided to take my wife over to eat lunch. It's about a 30 minute drive from Knoxville, TN to the little town of Kingston. GJ's is located adjacent to a Food City. The decor is quaint--cool, actually. I ordered the fried chicken, fried okra, and pan-fried corn. The wife had meatloaf, green beans, and the corn. There were two pieces of chicken, whole pieces of deep-fried okra, and a ramekin full of corn. The chicken was boneless and fried well--it wasn't dry (as most boneless chicken can be when deep-fried). I'd never had whole okra deep-fried, but it was good (the only problem was I needed a plate full). The star was the pan-fried corn--it had a good flavor highlighted by a little black pepper (I believe). We ate some banana pudding--it is good. From Alabama, I grew up eating banana pudding and this was some of the best. I've only have one less than positive thing to say--service was slow (differentiating the time to cook the meal--I expect wait time on good food). The wait staff was slow--not sure why--but it took about 5-10 minutes to get menus and our drink orders from the time we sat down. We watched the wait staff and tried to figure out why they were so slow--we couldn't figure it out. We'll go back and I may improve the score if service improves. (I wish we were able to rate service and food separately--the food would be in the 4.0-4.5 range.)

Great southern food with a side room for big groups. They particularly have interesting appetizers. My one regret was that they ran out of the Krispy Kreme bread pudding before I got any!

I have visited on two occasions. Both times the food was delicious but it took way to long to receive it after ordering. Sadly, the second visit wasn't even that busy. If you decide to try the restaurant, don't come too hungry or you will be starving by the time you receive your meal. I hope they can fix their current timing issues in the kitchen.
