I am not sure how WaterWatch and breweries work together here. I am well aware of the efforts of WaterWatch and have financially supported them in the past but this coalition doesn’t seem to be too well thought out.
There are 263 brewing facilities in Oregon which produce approximately 1.7 million barrels of beer. It takes an average of 5 barrels of water to produce one barrel of beer. That figures to 8,500,000 barrels of water or 272,000,000 gallons of water that are taken from our streams and reservoirs. Not to mention the millions of gallons of wort that is flushed down the drain and has to processed in our treatment plants while water and sewer rates increase for residents!
So, how does this differ from other industries or agricultural processes that take water from our habitats?
I admit I enjoy beer but for WaterWatch to partner up with such a water waster is beyond imagination and beyond my resources to fund.

Great organization that works to protect instream flows in Oregon rivers from agribusiness and development interests. If you fish, kayak, raft, hike, or just enjoy looking at rivers in our state, you should be a Water Watch supporter.
