My mother is a current resident and has been for a few years now. Her mobility has improved as well as her social interaction with fellow residents. The care and attention she receives is what one would expect in a 24 hours nursing facility. The staff has always treated my mother with respect and dignity. Thank you for caring for her.

This place used to be the most wonderful community oriented, family friendly place. Yes the building had antiquated infrastructure but it was fun and mellow and compassionate so it didn't really matter that the AC wasn't that great. Then they started to go through administrators, the old time staff began to quit or get laid off...and now sadly its not that great. The staff is a bit fearful of the rules and administration (yup, just like a big corporate owned facility) and the food is not that great...the worst part is that its the residents who suffer most. My mother has been here for over four years. Sixteen in long term care-so I've seen a few places. There are far too many issues to list, as the previous reviewer mentioned, bringing food in and actually getting it to your loved one is impossible. About two years ago my mom's nurse told me in a care conference I'd have to make a care plan for her to get a salad. A salad, when people can get cigarettes and the diabetics get all the sugar they can ....Anyway, the 'rules' as they stand make no sense so to stand on them like this is actually a way to be abusive to family like myself who have been managing care alone for many many years and are exhausted. There is no real support for family here. There used to be when they had a social worker on staff. The administrator has been flat out abusive to me. Actually threatening to ban me from the place, for being a passionate advocate for my mom's care needs that were not being met. The latest is that the day after her worst health scare to date, they moved her so they can repaint her room (for the second time in a year.) I do want to address the previous reviewers comment about hospice-morphine is a typical and compassionate way to manage a painful death. I've spent waaaay too much time in these places and there are still a few old timers who do this work with love and care. They go by the rules but if that interferes with a residents well being they will break a few here and there. That's what a good caregiver does, because in the end that is what matters. Its the management that sucks here and its really sad because its ruined a really great place.

My mother was in Lawrence Convalescent for little over 4 months. We paid big $$$.but there is no care. She was not mobile and they will just bring food and leave on the dresser where she couldn't reach or bed side. She couldn't even turn on her sides how can she get up and reach the food. They will take everyone one is the dinning room and kept my mother by herself in the room. My sister was taking food everyday and feeding her. We were paying money for the food but she was not been fed the food we were paying for. Once she was very dehydrated and I asked the nurse to call ambulance and she refused to call . Debra the nurse told me that I was not doing a favor by asking to call ambulance .She said if I take her to the doctor today she will be back to the same way again.I had to call my sister who is RN and she had to call and yell at the nurse to call the ambulance. The place smells so bad and no air conditioning. Not enough staff to take care of the residents. People are given morphine to kill them slowly. I will never recommend this place to anyone. It is not even worth $100.00 a day. They were only charging over$9,000 for the bed only. I will not even give them half star. But without putting the star I cant submit this review.
