Civics Learning Project

Talk about teaching civic responsibility!  This non-profit organization has been doing it for 26 years. Democracy, civics and active participation in the community do have to be learned.  I am all for  a push for math and science but the Classroom Law Project brings  law-related education programs into Oregon schools, teaching students at all grade levels the values and skills essential to being a participating citizen . Today was the state competition at the Federal Building. I have never seen the high school competition, so I thought I would take it in.  Out of the entire state only six high schools competed. Are you kidding me?  And every judge and attorney seemed to be there helping in some capacity.  Critical thinking skills? Try the U.S. Constitution on for size.  I mean if we didn't have that who knows where Calculus and Chemistry would be.  It's a K-16 program. Your local school should be doing it. It if is, support it. If it isn't start it. I don't think you will be sorry.
