image Just stayed for 3 days for a post Thanksgiving getaway. I'll start with the pros: Check-in was great. They were very friendly and it kinda had the feel of the Bob Newhart, Vermont Inn. No Wyndham sales reps and the property is pretty well maintained. It's out on a golf course so is secluded, but Chimney Rock is pretty close and many hiking trails but not on the property; about 10-45 minutes out (Chimney Rock close). At first glance upon entering, it was antiquated, but looked real clean...mostly. We were upgraded to a 2 BR lockoff, which was great too. Our guest couldn't make it, but I used the down stairs bathroom in the lock off and had to use the coffee maker, because the Hamilton Beach filter overflowed because the filter wouldn't allow the water to filter through...no problem; the Cuisinart was downstairs. If you just get a lock off room, it's minimal but still doable. Especially if you plan in doing the majority outdoors. Heat worked real well and easily adjusted with thermostat. The amenities are off site, but not a bad drive. The indoor pool was open and hot tub was hot. Pool water was real nice and everything was nice and clean. Steam room and sauna was a plus but didn't use. Great workout room and they have classes on their calendar.
Cons: did find a small roach, but we are in the woods, so there will be bugs...stinkbugs too, this time of year. I did mention it looked clean. My wife's flip flops were covered with white animal hair...this is a no pet facility, so someone snuck their pet in, plus my wife stepped on some kibble, so this room 2217A needs a "deep" clean. I would suggest all carpet be replaced by lamenant flooring. Carpet is hard to keep clean and it really holds on to pet hair. Most is hard flooring but the living/dining area is carpet. A lot of the hotels I've been to lately are removing carpet and putting down lamenant. Plus, if something spills, it can be cleaned easily, unlike carpet. I do have back issues so decided to use the bed downstairs, but pulled the covers back to find a black hair (could have been from house keeping staff), however, it looked like two people had already slept there by the wrinkles in the fitted sheet. I decided to stick with the A unit bed...it was pretty firm.
With all this said, I spent a whopping 21000 Wyndham points for 3 days, so it was overall a good deal. Not sure what others pay, but I'm not going to complain about spending little and not getting the Biltmore Estate...so smile and try to enjoy life one day at a time. Life's to short to be mad all the time. This is why they deserve better than a 3, but don't warrent a 5.room photos of small lockoff room. Totally acceptable for a short stay,
I'll be back because it's has the things I like to do; hike, exercise and enjoy a nice craft beer while watching the happenings on the lake.
