This review comes 3.5 years after Tree 2 Key built our home in Holly Springs NC. Overall, this is just a builder who subtracts jobs to the lowest-bidder, and it shows. The quality of our home is horrible: - We have major electrical issues which causes flickering lights and has burnt out electronics connected on certain circuits. - The doorbell didn't have a transformer at all. Had we not noticed, it could have easily caused a fire. - None of the A/C pipes were insulated and now there is moisture damage on our walls where they lead to the attic. - All caulking in the home was done with too much water, meaning it has retreated or cracked. This includes in the showers, which caused leaks and water damage. - Stair balusters were fully epoxied in place instead of using the set-screw. Removing them would damage the wood. - Low-grade, mass chalk paint was used on all walls. Paint can be damaged from the slightest of rubbing. - Repairs that were done right before closing were done without quality. Our kitchen was damaged on move-in from a last minute repair and only ever got half-fixed. - Washer drain tubing offset was not connected directly, causing water damage. - The builder never completed multiple 1-year repair items and went completely silent. Overall, I hate to pass this problem of a home on to the next buyer, but we've spent so much money on repairs in the first few years that we have to leave.

Upon my initial meeting with the Director, S.P. discussing my renovation job, my budget was never even asked about. After me texting him later, and letting him know my budget was 20-33k - thereafter asking approx how much it may cost to do my job- he hits me with a 110k estimate. I later concluded this company is not interested in doing jobs by smaller budget. I thought contractors first of many questions are "what is your budget"? My main request was to level adjoining floors where a previous addition meets the old, which is approx 12 x 6 section. There is no wood rot involved, just need to fir-up, or joist. (2) Remove possibly 2 load bearing walls- one approx 12 ft span, and the other approx 10 ft. Possibly widen a cased opening by 2.5ft. (3) Remove 6 x 7 center bath that connects to the kitchen- which I can demolish myself to save cost. (4) New kit-cabs of my choice. Change where Fridge is located, after the removal of the wall (5) Rough-in new bath in room where plumbing is existing within same wall. These simple items listed are things normally done in a house flip. If all flippers had to shell out 110k every time to remove wall, and upgrade a kitchen, they would not recover the cost after closing; unless the home is upwards 1 million already. [But] this is my beautiful 1500 sqft home. I just want a more open plan, with level floors, so (I) can install wood flooring throughout, and replace a bath that was removed...nothing extreme. We updated our electric years ago, new roof, new HVC. new double pane windows, recessed lighting, upgraded baths, and a bunch of other stuff. I never asked for a high-end reno, nor a gut job, because I know modest, but fancy touches will increase it's value without overpricing per comparable's in our neighborhood. I am truly bothered as to why he never asked me what my budget was initially, and be willing to adjust things here, and there, so we can get my main request completed. I know the company is highly accomplished, however avoiding the smaller budgeted jobs may be their preference, but moreover is obviously discriminating; because every job that they complete with another satisfied customer to boast, makes the company as a whole accessible by all customers; and not just the elite with the house on the hill within gated community. I am saddened that I had a chance to get a great reno done by a successful builder, but he failed to even push for the job to make it happen; even after I disclosed my not so cheap budget. :((

We can't say enough good things about WS Builders. They did a major renovation and addition for us and from the initial meeting until sign-off things were on schedule, on time and completed to our (and their) satisfaction. We had never done a project this large and were pretty apprehensive about the process, the impact on our daily lives and the expenses running out of control like you so often hear about. We are admittedly very picky about our home and getting quality work done, which has resulted in some nightmare projects for us in the past. We never once felt like it was "us vs. them" like we have with contractors previously. Wayne ran our project like a finely tuned machine...he was on the job almost daily, never more than a few minutes to respond to a text or call, things were kept clean, all subs were on time, courteous and respectful of our home and any time we had unexpected issues it was taken care of immediately. We never once felt like we were secondary to other projects or that someone was too busy for us. Wayne asked often throughout the project if we were happy with how things were going, if we had any issues or concerns. All work was done to Wayne's high standards and he had no problem telling someone to change it if it was not. In addition to being great guys, both Wayne and Steve really do try their best to give you a great product at a fair price that will meet your expectations. We've been absolutely thrilled with the results of our project.
