Mysteries OF Life
I reported my ceiling 4 days ago, but no one responded. Oddly enough, today, on my day off and before the office opens, the ceiling appears to have been drained. Also, I have been out of heat since the 27th of March. It took a few days to get a response. Although the response ensures warmer weather outside (I guess to help with the no heat in the apartment), the weather has actually been very cold. As a matter of fact, I can actually see my breath in the apartment. This isn't the first time. EVERY month, there is a "new" part that needs to be fixed in order for me to have heat. I refuse to grab a portable heater that won't heat anything in the apartment because the windows are installed poorly. So cold air will just come in no matter what. Being patronized about issues in Detroit is being increasingly frustrating. Right is right, and wrong is wrong. Simple constant communication can avoid a lot of bad reviews. I feel that management saves money when the heat isn't run all the time. This is why the heat really is off most of the time. They just use the excuse of finding parts. They screen caller ID, so if they don't like you- no response. PSA:: I wrote a review from my other phone a month ago. The response was to come to the office and talk about it. No other comments to anyone else were made like that. An example of patronizing someone.

I want to start off saying, a lot of reviews I've seen have truth to them. I am new to the state. While driving over the road [meaning I never came "home"] I never had a problem with my apartment . However, since I decided to leave my old occupation and find something that will allow me to raise my kids; that is a completely different story. The first thing I want to say is staff appear to be friendly. I will say, it's their job to be welcoming -- so that matches. When I first moved in I was promised a free month rent, I believe I did get that as well. ---------- Now, let me give you an update. My first weekend at my apartment, I discovered a mouse. I call an exterminator out and he patched wholes and placed mouse traps. The following business day I relayed that information to the front office. They then informed me that I can have my apartment treated every week (friday), I just have to call to get that service for free. I never got reimbursed for paying out of pocket for the exterminator. No worries, as long as the pest aren't in my apartment I'm okay with that part. I actually recommend getting a outside exterminator to handle the matter. As I have read other comments and believe that's your better option. After Christmas, I have experienced either no heat or no hot water or no water and no heat. I don't get notified about these outages unless I reach out first. Honestly, I don't even like calling/visiting the office about my complaints. My opinion, I feel it's a "we will get to it when we can" attitude. I had a heater out for a month in a half in my bathroom. When I first reported or rather the third time I reported it; let's just say I never got a response. Just three days ago, I came home from work and the heater was working in the bathroom. Only to cut on the tub water to run a hot bath, and no hot water. No worries, I just took a cold one. When I have called to report heat outages, I was told their heat in the office doesn't work either and that we are all suffering. My opinion, their only suffering for 9hrs. They go home to a warm house and running hot water. Nevertheless, to not be looked at as difficult (which they already think I am) I just say nothing. I'm dealing with it. I will say, if you are focused and have a goal in mind - these "minor" things can be worked around until you get to your goal. If you're more settled, then I suggest buying a home or a better property that isn't such a fixer-upper. I personally feel like I made the wrong choice coming to Detroit. However, I'm here now. I'm making the best out of it.

S.S and L.B that work in the front office have high integrity and advocate for the residents at Sheridan Apt. Many reviews you read are horrible and that is because there was a management change of this property. The new management is taking control of the current situations and rectifying and bringing Sheridan Apts back to a high standard of living in the Detroit area. Im leaving this review so others will know that this place is on the up hill swing of things and they will follow through with your wants and needs as long as it is within their scope of things. However, you have to communicate and not approach them disrespectfully and realize the situation youre having is not their fault. Everyone there is just an employee trying to do the best they can daily. My words of advice for anyone looking to rent at Sheridan. Its a great location, its safe and the rent is decent compared to other places. From what we have seen as a family the new management is taking great strides into improving and making the needed updates daily to Sheridan apartments. We were residents there during the management change and there were times we were frustrated however Shae and Latoya stayed in communication with us every step of the way and even raised our concerns with the higher up management team. I hope this review resonates well and was easy to understand for everyone that works and rents at Sheridan Apt. God Bless Jesse
