image We're writing as family members of a wonderful woman who recently passed away at the age of 94. She had the good fortune of spending her last years at Allerton House in Hingham. It's with firm conviction that we emphatically recommend them as a place to consider for Mom and/or Dad.
We know first hand that families can be stressed when overseeing the care for an aging parent who may live alone, whose needs are subject to frequent change, and who may be opposed to relocation, even when it's clearly in their best interest. Allerton took a great deal of that stress away from us. After a few weeks of our Mom being there, we achieved a level of comfort which is difficult to describe. We knew that she was in good hands. As a result, our time together was refocused from day-to-day concern to a renewed camaraderie.
We're sure we found the best possible care and living arrangements on the South Shore for our transitioning Mom.
She thoroughly enjoyed her time there... Not because of the surroundings, which are absolutely beautiful, but more so because of the people who lived and worked there.
The care is first rate......The entire staff is knowledgeable, compassionate, trusted, and reliable. Smiles abound everywhere. Caregivers are attentive, accommodating, and pleasant. Activities and amenities are first-rate.....timely, well-planned and plentiful... trips/lunches off property, music, social hours, bingo and other games, guest speakers, movies, regular visits from podiatrists, hair stylists, etc., vaccination appointments, religious services, and a whole host of others are available routinely. Mom never had a dull moment, unless she wanted one. Everyone at Allerton was sincerely interested and actively involved in her physical and mental well-being.
When our Mom passed, the grieving was a bit different. We had lost our beloved matriarch, but also lost regular connection to so many wonderful people, especially her fellow residents, who became friends to us and to her, and whose lives helped enrich hers, whether it be with insight, humor or just plain caring.
Our family is extremely grateful for the care and dedication Allerton showed to our mother. We highly recommend that you visit before making a decision to go elsewhere!

image My dad was at Allerton House at Harbor Park for 8 years in the Memory Care section. The staff there are caring people that are well trained in this type of care. There is little staff turnover; the environment is great. I would highly, highly recommend AH at Harbor Park to anyone looking for care for their elderly family members. I can't say enough good things about it.

image Allerton House in Hingham is amazing! My mother moved in about 6 months ago after losing my Dad and she is extremely happy there. The staff is so caring and knowledgeable-they clearly genuinely love their residents and take the time to get to know them well. Activities and events are crafted so that everyone can participate no matter their situation and there is always something going on. My mother is a very active person and doesnt require any help at this point so we were worried there wouldnt be enough things to keep her moving and engaged, definitely not the case. She has gone into Boston to museums, to the Cape for Lunch, Marshfield for Christmas lights, etc. Even when there is nothing scheduled, I frequently find her downstairs doing a puzzle or reading because its so pleasant and bright. The location is great-tucked back behind a residential neighborhood but near shopping and the Shipyard. The Allerton bus takes her out at least 3 times a week for shopping, lunch, trips, etc and Mike who drives it is fantastic! Her apartment was just renovated and is beautiful, the whole building is clean and well decorated. I feel extremely comfortable talking to the nurses and the director, Kris, is committed to making Allerton such a special place. She has been extremely helpful in moms transition and I feel very comfortable discussing any issues/thoughts with her. It has been a difficult year for my family losing my Dad, having mom sell her house, and moving her to a new state, but honestly Allerton has been a gift in making things a little easier for all of us.

image My Mom needed to move into assisted living during 2020, it was not an easy time to be out looking at these homes in the midst of a pandemic. I do remember, feeling very safe going into the Allerton House and touring it, compared to some other facilities. The director and staff were very attentive to my moms needs and we decided to move her in that Nov. of 2020. From the day my mom arrived she was made to feel as though this was her new home and she belonged here with the other residents. My Mom never told any of my siblings or I, in the 2 years she was living there that she did not like it or wanted to leave. This past summer my mothers dementia had increased and we moved her into the Cove which is the memory care side at the Allerton House. The staff and residents there couldn't have been any nicer to her. She thrived in the Cove and we found her to me more engaged in the activities and liked the smaller space she was living in. Also, she had a lot less walking to get to her daily meals and her activities. My mom liked music and singing and we loved that they had music playing at meal time and different entertainers coming in, weekly. She especially loved it when the ball room dancer came in once a month! She couldn't remember what she ate for breakfast, but she could remember how to rip up the rug jitterbugging! Needless to say, we have no complaints or regrets having our mother spend the last few years at the Allerton House. It is very clean, and well maintained, the meals are beautifully presented and are delicious. The staff from directors down, treat all the residents with the utmost respect that they deserve and we would highly recommend it.
Of course my siblings and I miss visiting our Mom, but we will also miss seeing the wonderful staff and residents there as well.
We have some wonderful memories and had many laughs with everyone along the way.
