We loved the location and affordability of this place as well as the ability to bring our dog. That being said, we stayed in the bunk bed room and had not realized prior to booking that the rooms do not have air conditioning. Also, the beds have only one very thin blanket so our kids were all freezing. We had brought two extra blankets with us and we gave them to our two youngest kids. But they were still cold and we froze. Next time, I'll pay a little more and stay somewhere where the beds have real bedding and the room has heat. If I had known that we needed to bring camping bedding (heavy sleeping bags) for 50 degree temperature, we could have planned better and we would have had a more positive experience. It was sad to hear our kids whimpering because they were so cold. We still had a fantastic time biking the GAP trail. Also, the Track and Yak station, which is located in the same spot, is a fun stop to play games, buy souvenirs, and grab a cold drink. We didn't track or yak but we had fun at the station.

Rest rooms/showers are extremely clean with clean towels available. They are serviced often and thoroughly. Laundry facilities for only $4 washer/dryer and soap. The camping is up a ramp from hell, and many mosquitoes the first week of July 21. The picnic tables in the camping area are in bad shape- mostly broken. The host is friendly and full of advice. Food and beverages for sale right there. At the bottom of the hill -this is a great place to stay. Camping on top- not so good.

I've known Steve and Virginia for years now. I'm local and have been to the Trails Inn ever since they bought it. The place is meticulously maintained, the pulled pork sandwiches are made incredibly well at the little restaurant they operate, and being nestled in the hillside, is a scenic treat for those visiting there. Virginia and Steve are like family to me and I have personally witnessed how well they treat their guests. Steve will also throw in the complimentary ride out of town (depending on availability) for those looking for one. Their rooms are cleaned regularly and I often pass by the Inn and see Steve working around the property and helping guests. In my opinion, for the traveling adventurist, along the C&O Canal bike path, Trail Inn Lodging and Campground is Western MD's best kept secret. Now if they only got a beer and wine license, the train rides would be a lot more fun.
