I slept here in Oct 2012. It was actually really nice, clean and the staff was wonderful. We actually ended up here because the hotel we stayed was very crappy. This hostel saved our days... also, it was full of people, I believe it was because of the Voodoo Fest.

    1. We got bed bugs. We read some reviews online speaking of bed bugs so after booking I called the hostel and the staff informed me that this was being taken care of and there hadn't been any recent issues with Bed Bugs. We trusted that the staff was honest with us and that the issues were being resolved. 2. The first night we were there (Nov. 9) the heat was turned up very high. We were sweating all night even with our air conditioning turned on high. We had no control of the heat in our room, we tried to close the vents which did not work. The staff person that came in the morning said it was 86 degrees Fahrenheit when he arrived in the morning. 3. There was no hand soap in the women's bathroom the whole time we were there. 4. The first night there was no toilet paper in the women's rest room. 5. We were planning on renting bikes from the hostel to get around but the bikes were in very bad shape. They had very rusty chains, some of the cables were not hooked up, and appeared to be in very poor working order. 6. The staff said coffee would be made in the morning and there would be pancake batter ready so we could make our own pancakes in the morning. There was no coffee and no pancake batter either morning. My wife and I have stayed in hostels before and do not expect them to be in excellent shape but Joe and Flo's was in very poor condition, even for a hostel.

Very close to French Quarters. This makes it a super value at $25 a night! I can only speak for the dorm rooms, but they were kept fairly clean and there was good security with unique electronic combination codes for the door (as long as your roommate closed the door behind them). Other than my dormmate snoring, the place was very quiet. I was able to park my car directly in front of the building every night with no problem, and one night I had even accidently left my car trunk ajar and nothing got ripped off from it (I had a suitcase and other travel stuff in there). They do not provide you with a towel, soap, etc...but most hostels dont. So be sure to pack this in your stuff when you come to NOLA. Walking to and from the French Quarters at any hour of the night/day never felt unsafe as long as I stuck to the busy streets. So if you are on a budget and want to stay near the action of New Orleans nightlife, I would suggest booking a room or bed here.
