Had a very slow drip leak in our kitchen faucet. Was not an emergency whatsoever, but needed to be addressed. We went to try to fix it ourselves. It shouldve been simple, but the screw to take apart the handle and get to the cartridge to replace it was stripped. We decided to call Roto Rooter to get an estimate on repairing it or just replacing the whole faucet. They quoted me $500 to repair or $750 to replace the faucet(just for labor, on top of the cost of the faucet). We declined and ended up replacing the faucet ourselves the next day. Have never done it. It was simple, went flawlessly and took a little over an hour. It required a simple Phillips head screw driver and a wrench. Its safe to assume it wouldve taken the Roto Rooter guy about a half hour if not less, but lets be generous and say it wouldve also taken the professional an hour. Thats a $750/hr labor rate, on top of the $200 faucet. I dont ever plan on contacting Roto Rooter again if thats how they estimate their jobs. Unless youre interested in paying $750/hr Id say you shouldnt either.
