Let's discuss for a moment the Motorola mobile phone replacement process. My wonderful new Moto X took a dive after the most recent OTA update. The phone did not update correctly and went into a boot loop. So Motorola, a company that should be aware of how critical it is to get speedy replacement of mobile devices, is not apparently aware. If they are aware, their policies do not reflect the current trends of people being tied to their mobile devices. Motorola will ship you a FedEx label which provides standard air overnight shipping. That is the fastest part of the process. They receive the device back speedily. However, depending on how you elected to process the return - standard or advanced - really determines how fast you get a replacement. The Moto X is a custom phone if ordered through motomaker, so no loaner is available. If you choose advanced replacement, they will charge your credit card and send you a motomaker code. When I called Motorola I was not offered that option nor made aware of it. So going the standard route, once the phone is received I was told I would receive my motomaker code. NOPE! Once they receive your phone - today in my case - they have "24-48 hours to enter it into our (their) costing system and issue a new code." What? That's insane. So once I do get the code, it's another 7 days to get my custom Moto X. Caveat Emptor - let the buyer beware. Motorola is not quite dug out of the 1960's mode. Let's hope my favorite company on Earth, Google, can get this taken care of and make their return system much like their Glass replacement program.
