I usually like einsteins but at this one the staff seemed to be clueless about what was going on in their restaurant. No ice/didn't get cups/out of ingredients/poor serving sizes etc.

It seems as though the poor service at this Einstein's is consistent, at least recently. Clueless is a great word to describe it. I stopped by this morning on my way to work because my train was still ten minutes away. It was pretty muggy so I thought ten minutes would be more than enough time to pop in next door to the Diversey brown line stop to grab an iced coffee and a cinnamon cluster to go.
It was later in the morning, so it wasn't busy. There were a couple of tables with a few people seated, and I was the only person in "line," though there was someone paying at the register. The young woman that took my order greeted me pleasantly, took my order, and directed me to the next register.
I moved farther down the line, the woman at this register was fiddling with her computer. She seemed to be familiar with the customer who was paying and leaving, and she was friendly with him. She had his payment in hand, but couldn't get into her register. He may have been in a hurry as well and left her with the change. After he left, she didn't look at me, say hello, ask what I had ordered, or acknowledge my presence in any way. She just stood there fiddling with her computer. I gathered that she was having computer issues because she was speaking to a fellow next to her who was restocking something. They went back and forth for a few minutes about the system rebooting before he said something to the effect of, "Well I guess I'll have to sign back in from break." (Meanwhile, my toasty cinnamon cluster shows up.) He fumbled around for something, and after a while said, "I can't find my punch card." I clear my throat. Still no acknowledgement of me waiting to pay, still no iced coffee, and I'm guessing still no operational register. At this point, I remind them that I also ordered an iced coffee. Without a word, the woman sets a cup of ice in front of me. I'm not a frequent Einsteiner, so not really what I'm supposed to do with that.
The fellow that was on break finally signed into a different register, and asked me about my two bagels and shmear. I start to reply when the woman at the register comes to my aid and tells him that I had an iced coffee and a cluster, not two bagels and shmear (finally!!). He says, "Oh, okay," and tries to hand me the previous customer's money. Dear word. I say, "No, that's not mine. I haven't paid yet." I also ask about the cup of ice and the woman directs me to the beverage modification station in the corner of the store. "Ohh, okay thank you. Can I please have a total? I'm trying to catch a train in three minutes," I say. Suddenly I'm invisible again and they're talking about someone having rebooted something in some back office, the previous customer's bagels and shmear, and how much change he needs (even though he's been gone for five minutes). I have no idea.
Another minute or two later and still no communication, I leave some cash on the counter and make my way to the coffee, straws, lids, etc. (all of which are inefficiently on opposite ends of the counter) to fill my drink and book it out of there.
On my way out, I hear the woman should, "Thank you for your business!!" What in the world!?
I ran up the stairs to catch my train, and no longer had any appetite for breakfast. I cannot recommend this location and will not be returning.
