I thought I left happy after the lesson, but some things I realized I was unhappy about brought the review to 2 stars, along with her slightly condescending and misleading response to this review. The class was conducted in her private residence, which was a surprise. People may be uncomfortable stepping right into a very "lived in" living room of the apartment for the class. This was NOT asked about or mentioned during the phone call prior to the appointment and I was NOT given an option. The only thing we discussed are the looks I wanted and the pricing. I know this to be true because during the phone call I merely told her I would get back to her about whether or not I even wanted to go ahead with the class. I let her know that I did decide on the class via email and she replied with her address, and that was that. Another reason is that she started cleaning brushes and gathering products only after I arrived, which took 20 minutes. I mentioned during the phone call consultation that I did not have any makeup products and will not be bringing them to the class, so she should have been prepared to begin the class right away. Even though those 20 minutes did not count toward the makeup class time, I had expected it to start right away so that, if I had a later engagement, I would be able to make it on time. Another thing to note is that she insists on taking pictures and videos of you with her own phone throughout the class, even if you mention that you do not give consent for her to post them on the Internet for any reason. She tried to reason that she wasn't going to tag me when she posted, but that didn't matter to me - I just felt uncomfortable with the fact that she had pictures of me on her phone. She continued to take pictures and videos. Only after I asked her what she was going to do with them, did she offer to send them to me for my reference. The last reason is that I specifically told her several times that I wanted to mimic a look I had in mind and referenced the photo many times throughout the class. I did NOT have unreasonable expectations because I know I have a different face structure than the picture I referenced. It looked okay, but the problem I had with it was that she did not know how to do certain techniques. For example, making fake freckles consisted of dotting my face with mascara. I am not dumb enough to not know how to do that. I told her very politely a few times that it just looked like messy black dots on my face and NOT like real freckles, which was the effect I wanted. If I wanted to put black polka dots or moles on my face, I would have done it myself because anyone can do that without any makeup experience. I had wanted to learn how to do freckles and make it look natural, with the help of a professional makeup artist. But this was not accomplished. Those four things brought down the review because for the price of $250 and 2.5 hours of lessons, it was costly for the amount of professionalism (knowledge, cleanliness, etc).
