I was looking for a tax preparer that wasn't the usual, by the numbers, professional that I could pay a fee to determine whether a Roth IRA conversion would make sense. I thought I was going in for a free consultation to see if he could do. No mention by the staff or Mr. Stout said there was a $250 per hour fee to learn this and after dealing with similar professionals like lawyers or contractor's I didn't think to ask. When I asked him this about 30 minutes into our discussion he said something that made me think to ask what his fee would be to do something and he told me that the office staff I made the appointment with was supposed to tell me the fee for today's visit and I said that they hadn't. Be forewarned that it's a $250 consultation fee/hr. I feel Mr. Stout is a solid accountant that will itemize everything that is normally done as a course of normal business. I was impressed that they will put down every investment trade, gain or loss, whereas others in his profession just lump it together and this may cause a problem with the IRS. If you are looking for someone creative to legally reduce your tax burden then you might need to look elsewhere.
