Santa Monica Healthcare Center is a wonderful facility starting with the attention patients get from the staff and nurses to the extensive physical therapy program, we have seen so many of our clients mobility and health improve upon their return home. Nothing can compare to the communication their admissions and social services team provide and they are my top choice when referring our clients to any skilled nursing facility!

My mother has been at the facility approximately 3 months. In the beginning everything was awesome. Everybody was nice. Everybody was just awesome. Now they're using this under staff issue as a way of getting away with care that's subpar. I've called the social worker email the social worker several times regarding my mom stay and things like that. She never returned them . I finally got a hold of Eileen and she wanted to dismiss her way of communication or lack of communication with myself. She said that she was going to return a call to me that night regarding my mom's insurance she has yet to get back to me that was about a week ago, There are staff particular certain CNA that is just rude to my mom. and when my mom asked other staff, if they are aware of the CNA being rude, and they said oh yeah, they know how she is and I was it. My mothers mental health in the last month has declined every day. She's must to leave. She's crying wanted to leave. There are some great stuff. The young lady who answered the phone is awesome. The older lady that answers the phone is awesome. Very kind very cordial. There are certain CNA's. There's a medical nurse. That's awesome. Heard great things about him. I write this review and hesitation because my mom is afraid of retaliation by staff members and that has been brought up to a charge nurse that said she would investigate it and that I never heard anything back from it so my thing is beware

Severely unstaffed. Makes you feel like you are going out your mind. Cheap pay. Patients are abusive and complaints are ignored. Then they wonder why they can't keep staff. Just work somewhere else. Management is nice for the first week then you see who they are. Sue, the lazy lvn on the noc shift who is always sleeping and complain about doing anything in her job description is the most irritating. Older Spanish staff picks the less stressful patients for themselves and day are day you are stuck with the most problematic patients. (If you're not Spanish you are not in the group) uncomfortable, toxic environment

My mother had a recent stroke and was sent to this facility to receive therapy as a short term stay. The facility was a complete horror! It 1st started when admissions supervisor doesnt return your calls nor is ever available to provide information. Attempting to get answers to simple questions in regards to my mothers care was close to impossible. Whenever information was provided, it changed from one staff member to the next, never consistent and in reality contradicted each other. We have a glucose monitor on my mother, so were able to see her sugar. Her sugar was showing low on 60 when I called they said they couldnt check until the 8th hour because thats what its on her chart, so you will leave someone to continue to be hypoglycemic?. Of course it happened. I called again once it was showing 47 for sugar. I called 30 times, no exaggeration not one call answered. We were left no choice, but to call 911. Once they arrived I called and the nurse answers me, how dare I called the ambulance. The audacity of a nurse to say that to a worried family member. I knew then I had to get her out. This facility managed to then let my mom have a 400+ sugar for more than 7 hours! This facility is understaffed with inadequate skills. They have a lot of rotating nurses as temp fill-ins, which make it hard for them to know the patients needs. We finally got her out and without surprise her sugar hasnt been fluctuating , which makes me think what was this facility not doing correctly and not managing her diabetes on top of her recent stroke! What an awful place and staff!
