The manager at this store pulled a scam on me because he knew I was from out-of-state. What happened was that I was on vacation and went to this Radio Shack to purchase a digital camera. The mistake I made is that I told the manager I was from out-of-state on vacation. I picked out a camera and then he proceeded to sell me on the extended warranty. I never buy these as I believe they are a rip-off (Consumer Reports says they are too). Anyway he told me that if I purchased the extended warranty, it would entitle me to a free second rechargable battery to carry as as back-up. The cost of battery was more than the extended warranty so I agreed to purchase the extended warranty. After I completed the purchase for camera and the extended warranty, the manager said he was out-of-stock on the rechargable battery for the particular camera I purchased. He said as soon as I got back to Dallas, I could walk in any Radio Shack, show them my extended warranty receipt and they would give me a battery. When I got back home, I took my receipt to a local Radio Shack and was told that the extended warranty does not entitle one to a free battery. In other words, I had been conned by the manager of the San Fransisco store. I know salespeople make a commission from selling extended warranties and am sure he pulled this con on me since he knew I was there on vacation. He knew I wouldn't find out I had been scammed until I arrived back in Dallas and in all likelihood, he would never see me again. I called the manager and of course he denied everything as I expected him to. I then called the Radio Shack corporate office but they refused to help. I got the the name and number of his district manager and left several messages....he never returned my calls. So my advice to others would be to never purchase an extended warranty and never tells a salesman you are from out-of-state. I think some dishonest salespeople see out-of-staters as an easy mark.

The people at this radioshack bend over backwards to help you with cell phone issues. if you buy your cell phone here, they will take care of it above and beyond. They let us borrow a charger when our phone's charging device broke until they could get a replacement phone in. Any other shop - including the cell phone provider would have us send in the phone. they also said if we drop off our phone for a day they will take care of transferring all our info, incredible service!

These days I pretty much only go to Radio Shack when something in my electronics setup is not working and for some reason I need to fix the situation RIGHT NOW. Like, in the next hour or something like that. If the project can wait a day or two, I can almost always save a meaningful amount of money buying the parts I need on Amazon. An HDMI cable that costs $20 at Radio Shack might cost only $7 on Amazon. To pay more than twice as much for a cable makes me feel like an idiot, and I can't bring myself to do it. I just looked at Radio Shack's income statement. It seems their gross margin has dropped in the past few years from 45% -- which means they were marking things up on average by 82% over their cost -- to 35% -- which means they are now marking things up "only" 54% over their cost. Seems to me that margin still has a long way to drop.
