A letter I sent to Amici today May 31, 2011. Judge for yourself.
Hello –
I wanted to tell you about our dining experience last Saturday night the 28th of May. I had made a reservation for 2 and arrived about 5 minutes early. When we arrived there was no receptionist to seat us and one of the lady waters was handling the seating as well as trying to wait on tables. We had to wait for about 5 minutes to be seated which was fine however got the feeling that something was disorganized with the whole operation.
We were seated at the small table closest to the front door. The air conditioning was blasting straight down onto us and our table. I thought no big deal, it was a warm night and at first it felt good. As the night wore on it became very cold and needs to be corrected.
The same lady that seated us came over and asked about a drink. We ordered two glasses of wine and asked for some bread. The wine came, the bread did not. We asked for bread 3 more times before a young girl with pink in her hair brought some. Our dinner order was taken about 7:10. I looked around and observed that almost nobody was eating. Our salads came quickly and they were great. Our empty salad plates were taken away and the wait started for our entrees. An hour later I finally flagged the waiter down and asked about our dinners. She was obviously stressed out over the long time. We ordered two more glasses of wine and waited even longer for our dinners. At 8:15 she finally brought our two dinners. The friend that I brought with me could not eat his dinner. The chicken was burnt and tasted sour. The waiter again so very graciously asked if everything was ok. I finally told her no that he could not eat his dinner. She offered to bring him something else but I told her no we could not spend another hour waiting for his dinner to come.
First I want to say that this lady was an absolute angel in the way she handled us and the other diners who were also complaining about the wait. How she did this was beyond me. Unfortunately this was our first and last time to dine at Amici. The wait was unacceptable and the food also unacceptable. There was no manager or anyone who even acted like a manager on duty. These poor waiters were swamped and without support. Where were the managers, where were the owners of this locally owned business?
Last week you ran a ½ price deal on the local TV station. I’m sure you sold many certificates. I just hope all the rest of the locals who purchased them did not have the same bad experience that we did. I was a retail business owner for 25 years and I do not complain unless it’s sincerely needed. This was.
