Incredibly tasty Rhône-style wines, organically farmed by wonderful people. What more could you ask for? It was serendipity and our great fortune that a tasting room gal at Turnley recommended Pipestone to us several years back. We have enthusiastically carried their wines in our Berkeley restaurant ever since which pair so well with our Mediterranean cuisine.

This winery is more rustic and casual than many wineries in the area. Don't expect a lavish or fancy venue. However, the wines are reasonably-priced for the quality and have a very traditional feel. One or two of the wines felt a bit wierd and clumsy to me (Workhorse), but some others like their regular Syrah and their Grenache are very nice. The highlight though is their Reserve Syrah which is absolutely stunning and eclipses anything else in the whole area at anything close to the pricepoint which is about $55. They don't seem to offer the reserve Syrah to taste at the winery anymore but trust me on this - just buy it blind - any vintage and you'll be happy you did. I wish I bought more of that wine when I was there. The '09 is etherial and otherworldly.
