I have been a client of Tonya Hernandez for nearly 5 years now. Not only is she an refreshing and very professional lawyer, she has always-- and when I say always, i mean literally 100% of the time-- won every case she's ever represented me in. She is everything anyone is looking for in an attorney in and out of court.
She's thorough, punctual, knowledgeable, and always looking out for the best outcome and goes above and beyond with it. If you're wondering what I mean by that last one, here are just a few of the literal dozens of reasons I have:
- She actually cares:
Family court is incredibly stressful and emotions run extremely high more often than not. She gives me advice and really gives me perspective with great patience rather than taking my money, rushing me through, and moving on to the next like I have experienced with other attorneys/firms I've retained in the past. She will fight for what's best for you, and (in my experience) she will win too.
-She fights hard but she fights fair:
She sets reasonable expectations and makes sure we are both walk before the judge fully prepared. In the event we ever settled rather than going before a judge she always got me what I wanted and sometimes better. We have dealt with opposing counsel and opposing parties that were unpleasant or used mudslinging as a tactic. Tonya kept cool and that composure helped me to keep composed. She's always presented my cases with facts and evidence of those facts rather than taking any chance that I could be painted in a negative light or even worse... That integrity is rare and it's something you can count on with Tonya.
-She is always on top of your case:
I have never had to call her twice about the same thing, it is actually rare I have to call her at all because she's already working on it. I have never had to file or obtain anything once on my own in the entire 4.5 years I've worked with her.
-She has awesome staff:
Her assistants are quick to reply to emails and phone calls when Tonya herself is unavailable. I really appreciate that in any establishment, the customer service is definitely there and compassion too!
-Her office is nice:
The lobby is very comfortable, spacious and welcoming. The furniture is comfy, there's colorful art and decor, and everyone that works in that office always seems happy and that is refreshing when you're under a lot of stress. It sets a stark contrast with the cold and very bland exterior and interior of the entire complex around it. Waiting doesn't usually happen when I need to make the rare visit to her office, but it is always a pleasant experience because of the professional individuals that make up Tonya's team and how the space just "feels ".
There is very good reason I have chosen her to represent me for nearly 5 years each time. If you're on the fence because of price, know that Tonya will work like you're paying her a million dollars every single time and that is priceless when your family or home is in limbo. I can't recommend her enough!

I hired Mrs. Hernandez to assist me with my divorce. While the divorce itself has been the worst thing I’ve ever experienced, Mrs. Hernandez has been immensely helpful in making the best of a bad situation. She has been compassionate, understanding, and attentive to my needs. She has done a great job of educating me about the process, informing me of various options that are available to me, and she has given me great suggestions and recommendations for how to best proceed.
Not knowing where I’d end up after the dust settled was scary. Mrs. Hernandez was always careful, if not overly cautious, in setting realistic expectations. She never promised complete victory and success in getting everything one hopes for in this situation, but at the same time, she expertly managed to assuage my fears of the doom and gloom I was expecting, which was comforting in a very distressful time. Instead of promising me the sky and falling short, she consistently under-promised and over-delivered. While there are no “winners” in a divorce, I am very satisfied with what she has accomplished for me.
I’m going to state the obvious: hiring an attorney can be very expensive! Mrs. Hernandez has always been meticulously careful to minimize the impact this process has had on my finances. She has consistently recommended courses of action that benefit me as opposed to doing things that would result in more billable hours for her. I appreciated that very much.
As many nice things as I can say about her, I think a far better testimony to her skill is the fact that more than one time in court, I had people ask me for her business card because they were so impressed by how she presented. If you’re looking for a calm, compassionate, thoroughly professional attorney, you should strongly consider hiring Mrs. Hernandez. I am so glad I did.
