TLDR: Go with Dr. Memsic
I had a lump in my lower back presumably a lipoma. It was not superficial but deeper inside the body so I was looking for a surgeon instead of a dermatologist to operate and excise the tumor because it was causing pressure and tightness. A good rule of thumb is to have a surgeon that has plenty of experience operating on the kind of procedure you need. Goals included getting the whole lipoma out, attempting to remove the capsule of the lipoma to help to prevent recurrence and to have it analyzed by pathology to confirm presumed diagnosis. Dr. Memsic certainly does lipomas and also does breast type surgeries.
As far as my experience, everything was actually about as wonderful as it could be. Everything seemed right about the pre-op experience and surgical plan to make as little incision as possible, dissolvable sutures, attempt to get the capsule out. Dr. Memsic has an in-house ultrasound machine to do real-time visualization in her office. Since lipomas are fatty and can be hard to define borders when it is also surrounded by fat my actual lipoma itself ended up being more than 2x the estimated size on ultrasound.
The surgery itself went well; the lipoma came out in one big hunk. Anesthesia did an amazing job so I didn't start feeling the pain/discomfort until the day after surgery, but, for that, pain management is offered and provided. Post surgical discomfort related to the incision was low grade and lasted about week or so and the scar is healing nicely without complications. Pretty much right away I felt the pressure relief that the lipoma must have been causing by being squeezed into my lower back. So in a way I felt better immediately after surgery since the pressure of the lipoma was gone. I came back in a few days post surgery to change the dressing and have a quick follow up eval by Dr. Memsic. Thank God the path report from Cedars Sinai came back confirming lipoma which is what Dr. Memsic thought it was upon removing it. They did a FISH analysis to rule out some of the bad kinds of tumors.
Communication with the clinic is easy and professional, they use a secure portal called Klara to chat and upload info as needed right your phone. The clinic and the small attached operation suite are posh--matches being right in the heart Beverly Hills--everything looks brand new still. Dr. Memsic has a great sense of humor and maintains a positive and empathic approach. She did a wonderful surgical job. If I ever have another lipoma that is in need of excision I know where I'll be going. Thanks to Dr. Memsic and team.

Doctor Memsic is quite an amazing woman! She has a great sense of humor and beside manner. She drove to Cedars in the middle of the night and ordered tests just to make sure I was okay. She stayed at the hospital awaiting the results for hours. She is extremely knowledgeable and kind.

In 1998 I was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer. I was referred to Dr. Memsic. She was the best surgeon. It is now 2022 Ive been cancer free thanks to Dr. Memsick. I would highly recommend her.

There are so many wonderful reviews about Dr. Leslie Memsic and that is because she simply is the best. She is ranked in the top 10 of her field and is also one of the warmest doctors I have ever met with great energy and a fun sense of humor. She will listen and answer all your questions and put you at ease. She pioneered skin sparing, nipple preserving total mastectomy, this the was the surgery I had with SWIM breast reconstruction by the incredible Dr. Lisa Cassileth. This revolutionary implant-free surgery allows all the cancer to be removed and the remaining fat tissue and skin creates new smaller breasts. Flat out miracle and I feel this is the surgery of future! I am thrilled with my results. You will be in excellent and caring hands!
