This VA does not help with wheelchairs. I have two chairs that both need repairs but I need to find a way to fix them on my own. They don't have a spinal cord injury clinic and they don't do anything for paralyzed veterans here. Utah is a terrible place to live if you are a paraplegic and this state has no love at all for veterans here.
The Ortho clinic refused to help me with a chronic recurring dislocation of the scapula-clivical joint unless I agreed to a different surgery that I didn't want and didn't need. They made me go through a "complete reverse shoulder replacement" on the promise that my dislocated collarbone would get taken care of after that. After recovery from the surgery they wanted from me they won't help me at all with what I needed. I think something went wrong with the operation because my shoulder ended up shorter than my other arm but the Ortho clinic doesn't want to talk to me. I feel like I was used as a guinea pig and discarded.
The GI clinic admitted there was something wrong in me, but at the same time, said that if they don't see it on an endoscopy, they don't know what to do so that's what they did for me, nothing. I have a neurogenic bowel disorder and I had to learn that on my own because their GI clinic isn't as well-informed as YouTube.
I went to the emergency room with a broken leg. They put a temporary splint on it. More than two weeks later I still had the temporary splint on because nobody made me an appointment to put a cast on it. Weeks later, I couldn't get it removed because neither the VA nor the veterans home would give me a ride. My family has to make a four hour drive down from Idaho in bad weather to take me to an appointment at the VA and I have lost my van because of that. Having had a weather related accident twice now, first time hitting a bear during a blizzard and the second time sliding on black ice into a pond, my van my van is a total loss.
I don't try to go to the VA anymore. I give up. 100% service connected, paralyzed from the chest down, with no healthcare in Utah.

Had two separate sinus infections within a month span. Requested antibiotics both times. Both times my provider and the NP consulting through tele-health refused to prescribe until I became more ill. Still waiting on the second round because I havent been presenting symptoms long enough.
Insanity.
If you wonder why Veterans health statistics present the way they do, look no further than the Veterans Affairs completely antiquated ways of gate keeping medication, all the while showing a completely condescending attitude to the Veterans understanding of their own health and body.
I didnt need prescribed Mucinex.
Ive needed an antibiotic.
Will be filing a formal complaint.
Complete and utter failure.

At 77 years old I have just left private sector medical for the VA.
I cannot imagine why I had not done this 10 or more years ago.
I cannot say enough about the civility and competence of the VA staff.
