Still the preeminent pre-K in Petaluma. Some others have come and gone over the years, but Little Shepherd, as sponsored by Elim Lutheran has an enduring program for many, many years. They offer excellent (and safe) premises, with full kitchen and restrooms and many classrooms. They attract and retain a staff of caring and qualified teachers. Easy parking, and the have their act together administratively. Little Shepherd is a great entryway school to the public elementary system.

We've had our 3 children (and the 4th will as well) attend Little Shepherd and we truly enjoyed their experiences. The teachers have all been there for a long time and have lots of experience with children. They have lots of fun and a variety of activities to choose from daily. I love the productions they put on, having the Christmas party and my favorite is the Thanksgiving feast with their famous pumpkin cake! I have saved that recipe since my now 11yr old was in their PreK! It was a great experience for all my children who attended and I look forward to the experience my baby will have once he's 3!

We now have 2 children enrolled at Little Shepherd. I have really enjoyed working with their entire staff. They are always pleasant and it's clear that they care about the children and their families. I am very confident that Little Shepherd was the right choice for our children's first educational setting outside of our home.

I currently attend Chico State and still remember all the great memories from my experience at Little Shepherds 16 years ago! It's awesome reading these comments that Little Shepherd is still doing great! I do remember Mrs.Whitney and can say she was wonderful. My family and myself are Catholic which shows you do not have to be Lutheran to attend this preschool. I would recommend this preschool to anyone who wants their child to have a meaningful and fun preschool experience.

I have had two kids attend Little Shepherd and we have loved it. I was initially concerned about 40 kids in one room with 7-8 teachers for the 3 and 4 year olds, but they have exceeded my expectations. The staff have been there for decades and offer loving and attentive care. The children are peaceful and happy in the class, not rowdy and wild. They do adorable craft projects each day. The kids get to choose their activities but the staff offer different options each day, so they kids don't see the same toys or art supplies each day. The 2s class has only 15 kids and offers a sweet and loving introduction to "school" for the little ones. The 3 and 4 year olds attend church, and all the kids say a prayer each day. We are not religious and I was unsure how our family would do with this, but it has not been a big deal for us. The kids come home singing "Jesus Loves Me" and tell me what they learned about God, and it's opened up some interesting conversations, but we haven't felt ANY pressure at school about our family's religious choices or preference. The ladies have the school running like a fine oiled machine with NO drama, which has made our time there a real joy. I recommend this school to anyone looking for a real preschool experience (not daycare). The hours are limited, so it is definitely not for kids who need full time care. The staff are wonderful and my kids have loved attending.
