About
Michigan Pain Consultants - Heritage Pointe
Another short but not so sweet blog for you to, I hope, act upon ASAP. Medicare (coverage for the elderly and/or the disabled) in addition to forbidding the use of sedation for patients undergoing injections, is now forbidding the epidural use of Depo-medrol, our longest lasting corticosteroid. The recommended replacement, Decadron, typically has a shorter duration of action. In other words, if you have Medicare and you have chronic pain, you are now being denied a very standard, tried and true, safe pain management protocol.

Tlde: Do not go expecting fair/non-judgmental treatment, especially with alternative lifestyles
I was transferred from the Holland Office
FIRST OF ALL LET ME DAY THE DR HIMSELF DR NEMETH IS AMAZING AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN KIND AMD CONSIDERATE WHICH IS WHY MORE THAN ONE STAR.
However, the issue began when he switched me off to the mid level practioners...they refuse to consult with the over seeing provider on the case. Make decisions that affect other treatments without considering the full picture.
One in particular Jennifer White seemed to have a problem with the plan when I was switched to this office, so instead of talking with the treatment team she decides she can cut through two years of treatment on her own and dismiss all medication. This in someone dealing with HIV, severe hypertension that already caused hospitalization because I was still in a lot of pain but was afraid of the judgment (rightfully so it would seem) if I asked for more medication, and multiple levels of spinal disc degeneration with 2 fusions at age 36.
So take your chances, I guess l? But I wouldn't recommend it. DR. Nemeth I suggest you open your own practice. You were great at looking at the overall picture.

Sounds like I'm not the only one with the issue of not getting any anesthesia with the epidural procedure!! It's very painful actually!! Before I had my epidural while in labor I received pain medication!! I was recently there & I saw 3 other patients being brought out that clearly received sedation during their procedures . It must only be for certain people I suppose. I was never told this before my appointment & brought a driver that missed a day's work. Left in worse pain than when I got there & I had to drive myself home. Treat others as you would want to be treated!!

I really loved Dr. Popat-Lewis. She's a great physician and I've always had a good experience with her.
However, I made an appointment for facet and SI joint injections recently. I was not told when making this appointment that sedation was no longer even an option for most procedures with them. I noticed it mentioned on a google review, and when I sent a portal message about insurance authorization, I asked about if I would be receiving sedation like I typically do. I was told that no, they don't offer it as an option anymore, due to guidelines from the professional organization that pain management falls under. It sounds like I wouldn't have learned about this until the day of my actual appointment, after driving an hour and a half one way to the clinic for nothing. The injections are excruciatingly painful for me, and it's hard to stay still even when I had sedation. Even the professional guidelines for pain management say that sedation or anxiety medication should be an option for patients. Funny how a pain management clinic no longer offers pain management for what can be extremely painful procedures. I would like for physicians to experience these procedures and then tell patients all about how it's no big deal without any sedation or pain relief. I come to a pain management clinic for relief of chronic pain. Not to leave in more pain than I came in with. I'll unfortunately be finding care somewhere else, where I can receive the treatment I need safely and comfortably.

This isn't a complaint but more of a "heads up."
If you have problems walking...be prepared. The building does have a "drop-off" at the main door. There's no valet available. Security personnel are nice & polite. There are wheel chairs available but you have to make your own way to the office, which is located on the 2nd floor. Make your way up there, sign in on the tablet & take a seat. Then wait. Then you're called up to a window to check in. Then sit down again. Then, after watching "Murder she wrote" on the TV in the lobby, you'll be called back. Yet ANOTHER long walk.
Once you get back there, the doctor( my Dr. was Juska), the nurses, medical assistants & technicians, etc., are nice & professional.
Ultimately, once you actually get into the room, the level of care is really good. The hardest part is making it in there.
DON'T be late to your appointment. It takes a while to get in for another appointment, so plan ahead accordingly.
