Unique Bakery

Geoff with Unqiue Bakery made our experience wonderful. He is an excellent choice as the face of the bakery. He is friendly, willing to help, well-timed, and knowledgeable on the pastries and their relevance to France. We tried the kouign-amann and it paired nicely with our lattes. Thank you, Geoff! I've had hardtack that was easier to eat and more enjoyable. I was served that was so bitter and low quality I'd rather get it from a gas station, and the soy milk had definitely soured.

Update: The last two times I visited the shop the offerings were minimal and the ones that were available were stale. I walked in at 10 am and there were no breakfast items. Not a one. If you can get there when the pastries are fresh then my original review stands. At this point though, I won't be going back. Original review: Swoon! I went in thinking I'd buy one pastry and came out with three. They were that tempting and I bought them without even sampling them. The carrot cake was perfect. The cake was not greasy or fluffy. The texture was exactly as it should be and there was the right amount of walnuts and raisins to make it spectacular. Then there was the lemon tart. Lemon is a tough flavor to get right but the pastry chef was spot on. The tart shell was light, the lemon filling was not too tart nor sweet and there was just the right amount of meringue on it. Then there was the puff pastry with strawberries and whipped cream. Astounding! How did they get strawberries with that much flavor in November? There was a thin layer of jam that balanced the tartness of the strawberries and then whipped cream... well what can you say? And the coffee? It's assertive without being bitter and the best I've had since coming back from Europe. I love this place (can you tell? :-). I'll definitely be back. Like maybe tomorrow.
