Carter Volkswagen of Ballard Service Department

This review is about their "taxi" service, when one of their employees gives a ride to or from the shop. I had a ride a few days ago with, I swear, the safest driver ever. He stopped completely at every stop sign. He slowed down at speed bumps. He drove slowly and carefully on residential streets.

Had a frustrating experience with Carter VW this week and won't be using them moving forward for service. I brought my 2016 Golf R to Carter VW to get new pads and rotors up front. They did the work, called me to come pick it up, then called me again saying the brake pedal is now going to the floor. While in their possession, they said that the master cylinder failed and Im now on the hook for an additional $1,500 brake repair or I can get it towed somewhere else. The service manager said that the failure was random and was not caused by the work that they did. I consulted with another VW tech and they said that a random failure like this was extremely unlikely. Parts can fail, but it seems like an very odd coincidence that a major part of the brake system failed while they were working on the brakes? I do not believe that the service department is trying to rip me off. I think one of the tech's may of made a mistake and now I'm being asked to pay for it. After complaining, I was able to talk with the Service Manager in person. He offered to cover the cost of the labor, bringing my total down to about $700, but I believe I'm still paying a big markup on the parts. I hate to write a negative review, but I'm so frustrated with this whole situation that I want to warn others.

Kevin Dean/Service was awesome! I showed up to my apmt with newly purchased old sweet Jetta with pile of service records & some idea of what it needed. He took the time to go thru history and came up with a reasonable service plan without pushing service items and in a respectful, listening professional manner! Thanks Kevin!
