Unfortunately, after a lot of consideration Im updating my review. Ive been going to Dr. Sohn for 8+years and while past experiences have been friendly and fine this last time left me uncomfortable and with a weird feeling. I recently started a new job and have new insurance. I called twice asking before the visit to ask if the new insurance was covered. I was told yes by Kris each time if there was no restrictions providers which I could not find on the insurance website. Ive been going there for 8 years so why would I not believe her. When my information was entered upon arrival it couldnt clear so Kris had to call in to verify my insurance. While in the chair I could hear her yelling my birthday out for clinic to hear. I felt so uncomfortable as the techs were looking at each other and me in shock. Upon check out she said she was trying to get through the AI and they didnt understand her.. which got her to a person which I understand but in a professional setting yelling a patients birthday that loud is unprofessional. When going to check out I was told by Kris that my insurance only covered 90%. Thinking back I called twice and gave her the opportunity to help me with this which she didnt care to do. I told her I had my card and wish she would have offered to help me look into this during one of those calls but she decided to not help and make it harder for me to know about the coverage and in the end I had to pay money out of pocket for a visit I thought was covered. Its been known for 8 years that I havent worn a retainer and no preventative action has been suggested until now when all of a sudden I need braces/Invisalign. This was a 5 second recommendation from Dr. Sohn after she did my exam. I couldnt even ask questions as she was out the door before I could process this. Why not give me that information during the visit? Now I'm left waiting for the next visit to go over this? To top off this visit the dental hygienist, Jeremy, had a flyer with his Venmo code sitting right in front of the chair which is unavoidable for patients to see advertising for tips for his service. Comparing it to if a DJ can get tipped so can your hygienist. I was shocked this was being allowed as this is considered a medical field and is highly inappropriate. Average pay for a dental hygienist in Seattle is $56-$75. I Googled this subject and found the following from The Journal Of Professional Excellence Dimensions Of Dental Hygiene (Expanding The Tip Jar To Clinicians): Gifts and monetary rewards for healthcare providers can be viewed under the general heading of professional boundaries and conflict of interest. The professional relationship is one of unbalanced power. Such a relationship exists for the well-being of the patient, not for the provider. We need to stay cognizant of the principles of healthcare ethics. This experience has left me saddened as I no longer feel that Dr. Sohns practice is ethical in the way they handle patient care. Update to the update. Woke up this morning to a text message from Smile Esthetic saying my message preferences have been updated. Strange since I was asleep and did not update anything so someone in the office must have. I reviewed the changes and messages alerts for the following were toggled to of: - appointment reminders - review requests - happy birthday text from the clinic - manual messaging Retaliation at its finest as all of these have all been on since I started going 8 years ago. Needless to say when Dr. Annie Sohn emailed 2 hours after the text in response to this review I canceled my next visit.
