Had a horrible experience today with HoneyCar. The things they did well: 1) prompt message responses 2) knowledgeable staff Story that earned them a 1 star review: I had been working with a salesperson for 5 days for a vehicle. I told her that I was interested in the vehicle but I could only drive there on the weekend. I was traveling from 2 and a half hours away for this dealership. Before I left my home to make that drive, I asked the salesperson what I need to purchase the vehicle etc. I was paying cash so just wanted to see if I had everything with me because I couldn't travel back and forth due to the distance. 90 mins into the drive, they called me in order to put a 500 nonrefundable deposit on the car because someone else was interested in the car. I said okay I'll pay that (deposit had not been mentioned prior to that) then they tell me oh sorry you can't put a deposit now because that person is looking at the vehicle. And then 10 mins later I get a call that the vehicle has been purchased. And then they had the audacity to tell me that I don't know how a dealership works? It's always first come first serve. We only take a deposit on a vehicle if a person is traveling 2 hours or so for a car. (you're describing me, I'm that kind of customer and still you did not give me the option) Says oh I did not see a deposit there so I sold it. But I was never given an option to make a deposit now was I? Where is the deposit going to come from if you don't ask for it? The funny thing is the car wasn't even ready the day before. I kept telling them that hey please get the car ready because I can't travel back and forth (5 hours round trip) I need to pick the car up. On my insistence did they get the inspection done and everything for that the next day. So kindly don't tell your customers how dealerships are run when you are exhibiting exactly how a dealership shouldn't be run. The manager did not even know anything about my deal and kept defending his staff. One salesman says make a deposit right now, the other says now I cannot take a deposit and then the manager says we never take a deposit and then 10 mins later says we only take a deposit if the person is a long way away. What is going on???? I had to turn back midway. 3 hour round-trip for nothing.
