        I cannot believe how horrible the room, experience and service has been at the Hilton downtown Richmond. Began with rude front desk service and a disorganized mess of valet parking ($41 a night and they request a tip starting at $7 per interaction in their digital platform). We arrived at 5pm to an empty lobby and yet the staff still seemed annoyed that I would bother them with wanting to check in. No one told me how to find the elevator or my room, but you can imagine my surprise when I entered and found the room has a floor to ceiling view OF THE POOL! No sound proofing or privacy measures have been attempted, so all that separated our romantic getaway from screaming children in the pool from 5am-10pm is the window curtain. Said curtain, as well as the shower curtain were both covered in odd stains and spots of what is likely mold. The bathroom needed multiple repairs, and was in a state that was truly shameful for a hotel. The ceiling is crumbling into the shower, the sink was not installed correctly and water shot everywhere, no conditioner in the shower (just an empty bolt where it should be) and the shower itself DID NOT TURN ON! We called the front desk and they did send someone to fix it, after about 10 minutes water was coming out of the shower head, but it was certainly not working in the way you expect a shower to work. At no point did any staff apologize for the experience, or offer to move us to another room. Truly shameful, I will never stay in a Hilton again.

        Overall, rooms are acceptable but not great. There is obvious wear, minor cleanliness issues, and we had tiny bugs crawling on the vanity in the bathroom. We are Diamond members. That seems to mean nothing at this hotel - no waters, nothing. Shame, Hilton. You can do better. The bar, Gather & Hem, is quaint but is 21+. We were here with our 18 year old, bringing him for a college event, and it was very off putting to be asked to find a seat in the lobby, instead of grabbing a snack in the bar/restaurant area. Im pretty sure I will look for a friendlier accommodation when I bring him back in the fall.

We do provide waters in the room for our honor's guests, I'm sorry you may have missed that and consistently strive to recognize our Diamonds in other ways, upgrades as available, etc... We do have a 21+ policy in our G&H lounge, but also have our 1885 restaurant available as well. I'll share your feedback with the team, and we do hope to see you again, and show better. John C., GM
