It really blows my mind that restaurants still get away with the overpriced "small plates" routine. Walk a few blocks and there's a plethora of great restaurants that won't break your bank and leave you hungry.

The atmosphere and service of this place is nice, but the food and prices are not. I went back today for happy hour to give this place a second try but its been a miss both times. The food is trying to give upscale but the flavor is just a giant miss. No real direction on any of the menu items, and just REALLY expensive for what it is. Also, the happy hour is only til 5:30 and their happy hour menu contains food items that are normal price. And they offer a short beer pour for $5 that gets you a 4 ounce pour, but a normal 12 ounce is $8?!. Disappointing because it definitely has the potential to be great

My expectation was for just another place in Clarendon that caters to the Lululemon and CrossFit crowds of 20-30-somethings that I never see in the areas foodie destinations. I had greatly underrated the prospect of a really good meal. The space is comfortable with a generous outdoor seating area. The host and manager were courteous and quick to seat me. My server was prompt, my cocktail was first -rate. The strawberry/watercress salad (possibly off the menu by the time you read this) was the star of the evening. It compares well to first courses at most any of the areas Michelin-starred restaurants. At any of the handful of restaurants within two or three blocks of Bar Ivy, you can get a good scallop dish, and I would challenge you to distinguish one from the other in a blind-folded taste test. Sauted scallops at Bar Ivy were the product of a skilled chef attractively served, perfectly cooked, distinctively prepared with fennel and a bouillabaisse emulsion. The Japanese fluff cheesecake cake was pleasant enough with the recommended wine accompaniment. Ill admit that, even if perfect and fit for an emporer, it will never really be my thing, but if I could have experimented with it for about ten minutes in the kitchen, maybe some lychee or mango If you have hit the other good food spots along the Orange Line corridor so many times that you dont need a menu at them Sfoglina, Mele, Green Pig, Lyon Hall, Liberty Tavern, Salt Line (for the PEI and NB oysters) Bar Ivy will fit nicely into your Arlington dinner playlist. For me at least, it fits nicely very near the top. Parking: Paid lot in the building is convenient, but it appears that elevator access is reserved for building tenants.

Had another great meal and experience at bar ivy. This place has really great atmosphere in both their outside Courtyard and the inside dining room. The food is really great and priced accordingly to the Clarendon area. Always had a great experience here for dinner and a wide selection of drinks. I personally think this is clarendon's Hidden Gem. Try this place I think you'll like it!
